In all honesty, you hurt.
Your back was on fire from your lashings. Some of the threads had caught the backs of your legs in Rui's onslaught. Though, what bothered you the most was your wrists.
The slashes had been hasty. You knew you could never outrun the demon family. It was wrong. You knew it as you gazed at the reflection of yourself in the kitchen knife. To end your life before it had a chance to begin. There was so much you had yet to experience. Finding the love of your life, having a husband to settle down with, to have children, to grow old and see your children get married themselves...
You were nearing twenty. There was chatter around your village. It was a given with how small it was. Poor thing. She'll be a bitter old maid. There wasn't much thought before you began cutting into your wrists. You prayed that it would be quick, that you would die before one of the Spiders found you, and that maybe this would atone for all of the wrongs of your actions and inactions alike during your time in this home.
From your resting place on the floor, you didn't see your life flash before your eyes. Nor did you see the faces of your loved ones. No. It was far too soon for that. A sob bubbled up your throat as a spider glided down on its silk just far enough for you to know that your actions hadn't gone unseen.
That Rui knew and he was livid.
The door to the kitchen was flung open, tearing the battered thing off of its tracks. "No." Your wails had started up as a weak bubbling that barely made a sound in your throat. Though the pitiful sounds soon evolved into ear-piercing shrieks.
"You're selfish." It's what he'd told you as he mercilessly sewed you back up with the threads that made your blood run cold and made the instinctual part of your brain cower back in fear. Rui gave a particularly harsh tug during his stitching. "If you truly desire an end, I'm sure we could make use of you other than being our nanny."
"I've got it..." The spider demon cut his thread with his teeth. "You could be our livestock. After all of the meat you've eaten, you must taste so nice. I bet your flesh would just melt on my tongue." The young demon continued. You couldn't stop your body from shaking like a leaf in the wind. Your eyes were wide similar to that of a doe's who stared into the maw of a starved wolf. "With such a quality, I'd have to savor you. Start with your calves and take out small sections day by day as I worked my way up..." You'd rather have him shout at you, hit you, anything but mutter so seriously about this while the chilled pads of his fingertips smoothed over your shin as he lost himself in his ramblings.
Finally, he looked to you as serious as death itself. "Is that what you want?"
Frantically, you shook your head. "No, no. Please. I'll do anything."
"Good. Because there are worse fates than being livestock that I can come up with for you."
And you were looking at Rui's promise after you'd received your lashes for even having such a selfish, stupid idea. Up by his brother's suspended hut was your village's butcher's son, Hikaru. His work had developed him into a handsome young man, with a smile that hardly changed since his youth. Bright and carefree despite the hard work of his occupation.
He was only a few weeks older than you. If it wasn't for the horror you were witnessing, you'd laugh at the memories of everything being a competition. You'd see who was taller, who was faster, whose scrapes healed quicker, and play... even in the mud despite the displeasure of your parents when you'd track the mess back home. But now you were forced to watch him shrink and become something else entirely. To know that there was something much worse for you than to slowly be eaten, to have an end.
Hikaru looked like little more than an eerie porcelain doll's head that was attached to a spider's body as the minutes ticked by.
And Rui's brother certainly didn't help and he gleefully took in your despair and horror with his mismatched eyes. "Hey, Fake." Fake... No matter what you ate, no matter what roof you lived under, you could never hope to be an official member of the family. He glided down on his thread to partially obscure your view. "Do you think that when Rui gets tired of you, I can have you as my nanny?" The brother prodded cruelly.
The way his legs curled made the hairs on your arms stand on end and made the itch from your wrists crawl across your skin. He climbs down and the stench of his toxins follow him, even with the breeze. "My servants are too brainless to do anything without my orders, so I'm sure you'd fit in nicely." His cackle was accompanied by the had-been Hikaru's screech. It was just as inhuman as he was now.
Yes... There were certainly worse fates than being livestock.
