The next day, Clarke arrived at the Blake family house. She pulled into the familiar driveway and climbed out her car. As she turned, she was surprised to see the door already open and Aurora walking out.
"Hey, are you ready to go?" Clarke asked with a friendly smile.
"I think so. As much as I can be." Aurora smiled in return.
Clarke could see she was trying to put on a brave face. Today was the day she found out her results.
"I'll be there whenever you need me." Clarke said reassuringly.
Aurora pulled her future daughter in law into a tight hug. She squeezed Clarke firmly and whispered, "Thank you Clarke, and thank you for coming with me today."
"No need to thank me." Clarke smiled as they pulled away.
The two women climbed into Clarke's car and buckled their seat belts. With a nod from Aurora, Clarke backed out of the driveway and the journey to the hospital began.
It was a short journey, but the silence between the two of them made Clarke anxious. She didn't feel awkward, Aurora was like a second mother to her. But she felt like she should say something to comfort the older woman. She just didn't know what. What do you say to someone who could be dying?
Eventually they reached the hospital and the two of them made their way to the correct department. Aurora looked down at her appointment letter as they stopped at the waiting area and reception desk.
"This is it." Aurora said with a shaky breath.
Clarke gripped her hand and she turned to the receptionist.
"Good afternoon Ma'am, how can I help you?" The woman behind the desk smiled.
"Aurora Blake, Im here to see Doctor Richards." Aurora said with a tight smile.
"Ah yes, Doctor Richards is expecting you. Straight down the corridor, room 3." The receptionist said cheerfully.
Aurora nodded her thanks and turned to face the small hallway.
"Do you want me to wait here?" Clarke asked.
"I don't want to go in there Clarke." Aurora whispered. "What if I am dying?"
"Hey, look at me." Clarke ordered. Aurora turned to face her. "Whatever the outcome, we will face it together. Bellamy, Octavia, me, Roan, my mom, all of us, will be by your side no matter what. I know you're scared, but you're not alone Aurora."
Aurora smiled fondly at the blonde. "I can see why Bellamy thinks so highly of you. You're a wonderful woman Clarke."
Clarke blushed and looked down at her feet in embarrassment. "Thanks."
"He's lucky to have you." Aurora said.
"I'm the lucky one. Now, shall we go in?" Clarke said, offering her arm.
Aurora linked her arm with Clarke's and the two of them walked down the short corridor. The truth was, Clarke was terrified. Her heart was racing a mile a minute. But now wasn't the time for her to fall apart. This was Auroras news, and she would be strong for the woman who had helped care for her as a child.
Aurora knocked on the door once before pushing it open. Inside, Doctor Richards sat behind a large wooden desk, scrolling through his computer. He looked up as the two women entered.
"Ah, Ms Blake, come on in." The Doctor smiled.
"Thank you." Aurora smiled as she walked in and took a seat.
Clarke sat on one of the chairs at the back of the room, giving Aurora her space to talk to the doctor. She sent Bellamy a quick text to tell him they were there before switching her phone off and placing it in her bag.
