Spiderman swings across the room faster than I can keep up. The webs wrap around the Symbiote as he thrashes aggressively.
"Play nice, Spiderboy. I'm not here for you..." Venom hisses through his sharp teeth.
"Has anyone told you your breath smells? Jesus, I can smell it from here." Spiderman says while shooting quickfire webs towards the Symbiote's mouth. He growls in response and lunges towards the masked hero.
My breath catches as Spiderman is pinned to the ground. He tries to get out of Venom's grasp, but even his super strength is pained by the sheer body mass on top of him. Venom's mouth curves into a smile, and he opens his mouth wide. Am I watching Spiderman being eaten alive?!
Just then, Spiderman's arm breaks free and shoots a web towards a beaker filled with chemicals. He whips the beaker towards the creature on top of him and a sizzling liquid crashes into Venom's back. The shrill screech he lets out nearly makes my ears bleed.
I watch as the Symbiote stumbles back in pain. Whatever chemical Spiderman used really did the trick. It must be a very strong acid of some sort because the skin on his back is dissolving. It reveals another layer of skin underneath. Wait... is that human skin? I shake my head because there's no way a human would do things so morbid and animalistic. It doesn't matter anymore- the creature jumps out the lab window and disappears, leaving nothing behind but an oozing blue substance.
I'm still frozen in place when the familiar hero walks cautiously towards the room I'm hiding in. He opens the door slowly, and I let instinct take over. I wrap my arms around him and hold on as tight as I can. He's taken aback at first, but pulls me tighter. I feel his warm breath on the back of my neck, and I finally begin to calm down.
"H-hey, you're okay. Everything is okay."
I don't let go. I can't let go.
"Thank you," I whisper to him. He pulls back to hold my face in his hands. I look into the white of his mask and imagine the warm eyes behind it.
Suddenly, I realize something. "Peter! M-my friend. Peter Parker. Have you seen him? Is he okay?"
He nods understandingly. "He's perfectly fine, I promise. You'll see him at school." I let out a breath and finally relax again.
"I'm going to pick you up now, okay?"
I nod, and he bends to lift me into his arms. I close my eyes and curl into him, like a flightless bird taking solace in his arms. He walks me out of the building slowly, and I hear voices all around us.
"I guess I made a mess... the reporters are here," He laughs softly. He keeps walking, but I can hear the press yelling at him.
"Hey Spiderman, look over here!"
"This is Channel 9 Press, can you tell us what happened here?"
"Who's the girl he's carrying?"
"Come on man, we just want a quote!"
He doesn't stop. I can imagine the headlines now, but I don't have the energy to look nice for the tabloids. "I'll talk to them later. I need to get you home."
He moves my arms to his neck so I can hold on, and I wrap my legs around him just like before. Now I know it wasn't just a dream, because I anticipate exactly what happens next.
We fly.
~~~
I'm back at my balcony. He lets me down slowly and brushes the hair from my face.
"Y/N... we have to stop meeting like this," He says with a laugh. I finally feel the air lighten around me and I laugh with him. I shoved his arm, but he replied with a wince.
"Oh, I'm so sorry!" I didn't notice the tear in his suit until now. Blood coats the exposed skin. I open the balcony door and silently lead him inside to my bathroom.
"Y-you really don't need to do that-"
"Shhh," I say softly. I pull out my first aid kit and cleanse the wound.
"I've gotten worse from that nasty alien. It's just a scratch."
I roll my eyes and wrap his arm. It would be easier if he wasn't wearing the suit, but I can't ask him to do that. When I secure the wrap he looks up at me. The eyes of his mask narrow, and I can't help but smile. It reminds me of someone.
"That's better, right Spidey?"
He nods slowly. I help him back up and lead him to the balcony. I kiss the cheek of his mask, showing my appreciation, and head back inside.
"W-wait."
I turn around.
"Can I swing by tomorrow?"
I giggle at his request. This boy is bleeding out and he's worried about the next time he'll see me? Wow, I didn't know Spiderman was such a dumbass.
"Only if you rest your injured arm. If I see you swinging on the wrong arm, I won't let you in. Got it?"
He nods firmly, then gives me a salute. Just like last night, he dives off the balcony and swings from building to building. Once he's out of sight, I walk back inside and go straight to bed.
It's been a long day.
