10: One Week Later

Jason's POV

Life didn't magically go back to normal after that. Peter was still going to Goode, so we saw each other in the hallways. Usually he did his best to ignore us, but I caught him staring like at me like I was a lab rat sometimes.
The six of us had managed to afford a small apartment nearby Percy's mom's. We were all staying there, doing our best to pretend nothing had happened.
It wasn't until one week after we made our dramatic leave when  we got a knock on the door.
It was raining that day, and we'd done low to no things after school. Then the low, scratchy buzz sounded of the doorbell followed by a dull knock.
"I'll get it," Piper volunteered. A moment later, we perked up at her surprised voice saying, "Peter! We weren't expecting you!"
I was up and standing at my girlfriend's side, look down on a damp and flustered Peter Parker.
He held out a Tupperware container. "Uh, read on the internet that you should bake something when you want someone to forgive you."
I laughed a bit as Percy eagerly took the container. "As long as it's good, Parker, I forgive you!"
"Looks like someone's come back to question," Annabeth said a bit coldly. "Did Fury send you?"
"No. I just... I dunno. I feel bad for the way we.... I... treated you then," Peter bit his lip. "Does this make it up?"
"We'll have to see about that," Piper smiled warmly. "But please, come in. "

Peter's POV

I was surprised on how nicely the teenagers greeted me. The only bitter one was Annabeth, but she always acted weirdly around me. Like she was scared of me, and to be honest, I was more than equally terrified.
Piper lead me into the living room. Nico was on the couch with a cheerful-looking boy with sandy blonde hair and freckles.
"Hey," he greeted me. "You must be Peter Parker. I'm Will Solace, Nico's-"
"Nico's annoying doctor!" Nico interrupted Will, glaring.
Will grinned slyly. "I am Nico's doctor, but I don't consider myself annoying."
I remembered Nico muttering in his sleep, mentioning 'solace'.
Leo was drooling in his sleep on a armchair in the corner. His sleeves were rolled up, revealing a assortment of burn mark, oil patches, and scars.
Percy offered me a seat. "I guess you have some questions."
I shook my head. "I don't. I mean, I'm totally curious about you guys, but I understand the importance of keeping secrets. I just want to be friends."
"Geez," Jason muttered loud enough for me to hear. "That's a relief."
"Glad to hear it," I smiled. "But, seriously, are we friends again?"
"Bro, you were my friend the moment you gave me these brownies!" Percy said, making everyone laugh.
Annabeth laughed, too, but she didn't soften at all. I felt her gray eyes piercing my head like they were trying to access my memories.
"How do we know we can trust you, though?" She asked quizzedly.
"You can't," I admitted. "But you might as well."
"That's a good enough reason for me," Piper announced, and Jason agreed. Nico rolled his eyes and Will shrugged.
"Um, while you were staying in the tower, we... uh, discussed things." I told them how we'd investigated them behind their backs and shared information.
"Look, I never really want you guys to leave. I was just... grumpy that day you left. Am I forgiven?"

{time skip}

From that day on I was, again, a friend to them. Percy, Jason, Piper, and Leo warmed up pretty quickly,  and the Will guy too. I still wasn't quite so sure that Will knew... all the stuff between us, but it was fine anyway.
Annabeth never seemed to trust me. Not really. She seemed stiff, like she was expecting me to lash out or something. Why, I have no idea.
I met Percy's mom, who was one of the nicest people I've ever met. She smiled a lot, smelled of cookies (I tried a few of her infamous blue cookies - it was like a tiny wedge of heaven had taken an edible form), and had the overall demeanor of a kind, caring person.
I learned a lot more about the teenagers. Apparently, Jason had a sister, and Nico had a half-sister. I had picked up a clue that he had another sister once, but Nico and Percy were clearly uncomfortable with the topic. Leo didn't have any family, and Piper's dad was clearly rich - he had mostly paid for the apartment.
And the funny thing was: each of them was missing a parent. For example, Jason never mentioned his father. Neither did Leo and Nico. Actually, Nico got grumpy at the mention of his father. Plus, Will wouldn't say anything about his or Nico's dad.
Piper avoid my eyes whenever I asked about her parents, especially her mom. Same with Annabeth. Least I knew about her was that her dad was some kind of professor and she didn't like me.
And then there was Percy. I trusted him the most, but it was clear that he wasn't willing say much. His dad was missing, too - "lost at sea" he said. He obviously adored Annabeth, but was a bit miffed that she didn't like me.

Will's POV

Let's just say that I didn't know the situation was this bad.
A while after Percy, Annabeth, Jason, Piper, Leo, and Nico escaped the superheroes, they IM'd Chiron.
"First off, we need Will," Jason told Chiron. "Nico's... well, he's depleted."
"Second off, we made a biiiig mistake," Leo added.
"That doesn't cut it, Leo," Piper chuckled. "But yes, we need Will."
And off I was to Nico's assistance. I didn't hesitate, of course, although we had had a little spat over Nico's appetite. Reyna was involved, I'll leave it at that.
I was filled in quickly - all about them being caught by the Avengers and joining up. Chiron advised them to pretend to be normal teenagers. With help for Piper's dad and Hazel, the group bought an apartment, and I temporarily moved in to care for Nico until he recovered.
Next thing I know, Spiderman (Nico told me about Peter's alter ego after dinner) shows at the door with some brownies, and I'm dragged in the superhero thing, too.
I had no idea what I'd gotten into.

A/N

Yep, I'm back.

Sorry about that. I really didn't to disappear like that, but... stuff happened, and I wasn't able to update. At all.

But look: I've got this going again, and I've finally pulled the Solangelo card! All is well... for now.

Wishing you good times,
Geeking.
