You never had a real chance, did you?

It all started with that stupid love letter. That stupid letter with the heart shaped sticker that almost costed your entire friendship.

"Hanako-kun, I like you! I really do!"

Your head sunk down while you yelled out your feelings to him. The sunset had signalled for most students to leave; but luckily for you, you had decided to confess to him on the roof.

It seemed perfect. Nobody would interrupt you both here.

Your eyes closed tightly, and your hands shook with the love letter held in them. The wind blew your school uniform roughly, but all you could feel was the blush on your face.

"(Y/n)..." Hanako reached out to you, setting himself on his feet.

You peaked through your eyelashes, trying to see him through your embarrassment.

He had a look of slight despair on his face, making you tilt your head up worryingly.

His fingers gripped the letter. He pulled it to himself, his thumb grazing the glossy red sticker you worked so hard on making by hand.

Having the letter out of your grip, you just grabbed your uniform in stress. He took a shaky breath and gave you a look of destress. As he opened his mouth, you decided to talk over him.

You had an idea of what he was going to say already. Especially with that look on his face.

"...y-you know," Your voice came out shaky, making you put your head down so you wouldn't see his torn expression. "I'm not kidding when I say I like you."

Tears spilled out of your eyes just at the intensity of the situation. "But I'm not stupid, Hanako-kun."

A broken grin fell off your lips, you looked up and closed your eyes.

"It's okay, I know you really like Yashiro. I just had to get these feelings out of my system, you know?" You made a sound in disgust to make it sound like you didn't like the feelings Hanako had given you.

"(Y/n)-"

"𝑫𝒐𝒏'𝒕. 𝐶𝑎𝑛 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑗𝑢𝑠𝑡... 𝑝𝑙𝑒𝑎𝑠𝑒 𝑐𝑎𝑙𝑙 𝑚𝑒 𝑏𝑦 𝑚𝑦 𝑙𝑎𝑠𝑡 𝑛𝑎𝑚𝑒?" You interrupted, making Hanako visibly gasp at the venom held back in your voice. You sighed out the hate in your voice.

You didn't have the right to hate Hanako for having feelings for someone else.

"I don't like the things I feel when you say my name. So stop, okay?" You spat out lies with every word.

You lived for when he called out to you. You should've realized the difference in how he said Yashiro's name from yours, though.

"...of course (L/n)." Hanako glanced away, awkwardly coughing to get your attention.

Through the blurb of tears in your vision, you saw him hold out your stupid love letter. "Here."

You didn't know if you wanted to take it back. It once symbolized your young love awakening for the first time. Now it represented a toll of rejected feelings.

You couldn't let Hanako keep it, to constantly taunt him about rejecting his close friend. His emotions were important to you still. You were hyper aware of everything he was feeling at the moment.
