chapter eighteen

❝ everything was easier,
never knew what feelings were,
used to be just make believe ❞[ ∞ · ♡ ]
The trip taken to the mall movie theater would have been found more enjoyable by Mike if a certain somebody had been there. Usually, he would sit next to El, whispering softly as he would make jokes about the scenes or dialogue, and she would giggle just as quietly before offering him some of her chosen candy from the concession stand. It was always like they were in their own little bubble, and it made things far more enjoyable together than without one another.
He felt terribly guilty that she was being kept at home and away from the rest of them all because of one thing that was his idea. Running away was a dumb idea, and he shouldn't have brought her into it. Truthfully, he didn't exactly regret it, but he did think that maybe they shouldn't have gone through with it. It would have been better if they would have stayed home and dealt with things as they were.
Then again, would she have confessed her feelings to him if they hadn't gone? Would they have even realized how deeply their love for each other went?
Maybe they could have. But there was always that chance that they couldn't have.
The worst part of it all was that he still hadn't got the chance to tell her that he felt the same way.
All he needed was a moment alone with her, face to face, where he could tell her that he loved her just the same way. A fantasy that he may have pondered before in his subconscious mind admittedly more than once. But there was no way that was going to happen if she was grounded.
"Mike, will you stop being so grumpy already," Lucas ordered from where he lounged on the opposite end of the basement sofa.
Mike lifted his gaze from where he was sprawled lazily on the floor. "What?"
"Your mood is totally killing our mood," Dustin piped up, shoving a few more chips into his mouth.
Mike rolled his eyes at his friends before scooting aside to lift himself onto the sofa. "I'm not being grumpy."
"You totally are," Lucas laughed. "Just because you haven't seen El all day, huh? Geez, you go away for a couple weeks with her and suddenly you can't live without her. We get it, you really liked being in the cabin. Can we move past that now and stop with the grumpy attitude?"
Mike's cheeks began to burn. "My mood has nothing to do with that, you asshole. And I haven't even seen her in a while, actually."
