It’s Saturday today, I’m supposed to go to Maria’s house but then, I realized it’s also October 31st. With all the Halloween designs on people’s houses and some kids passing by wearing costumes, I knew it was the scariest time of the year, and I plan on going to the scariest house I might enter in all of my life. Yes, I do want to get some answers as soon as possible, but going to the house of a family of scientists who owns a monster tree on the night of Halloween seem dangerous. Maybe I should reschedule, she won’t mind right?
By the way, we’re here at school today because we needed to take make-up classes. I don’t know why though. It’s Halloween and we’re wasting our day here at school. We should be resting or something.
“Hey Joseph.” I jolted when I suddenly heard someone from behind. I looked back and it was Maria. Good timing, I wanted to talk to her.
“Hey, Mari-“
“About your visit. It’s all set. I already made all the preparations needed.” After what she said, I had second thoughts of rescheduling it. Would it be rude if I rescheduled it? It would if I had a very stupid reason like I was afraid, which I do. If only I had a reason to reschedule this visit.
Call me a coward when I’m only thinking of my own safety. Going to her house on this night will be a horror experience for me. I mean, anything would probably better than going to her house, right?
“HEY DUDE!” I suddenly leaned forward when an annoying guy put his arm over my shoulders. It was Denver wearing a very happy smile on his face, maybe too happy for the day of ghosts and ghouls. “About the party you wanted to come to, you’re all set!” Huh? Party? What party?
“A party?” Maria looked at me with her head tilted a little. I know she’s confused, I’m confused myself.
“Yup, Joseph just talked to me yesterday about the party I made. He asked me if he could come.” Wait! I never asked him if I could come to a party, I hate parties! Especially if it’s held at night.
“Do you really want to come to that party Joseph? Do you want to reschedule the visit?” I looked at Maria, and she looked at me with innocent eyes and a blank facial expression. She’s letting me reschedule the visit this easy? Is she serious? I don’t even know about this party, but it won’t be bad if I just used it as a reason, right?
“U-um, if it’s possible then can we reschedule it next week?” My voice wasn’t really full and I straightened my back and made sure that I was looking into her eyes. My eyes wasn’t glaring at her, it even looked like a weak kitten’s. I could see my reflection in her eyes.
“Okay, let’s reschedule it.” she puts her hands on the back and straightened her posture. I can’t believe she easily lets me off the hook. “but-“but?!
“I have to come with you to that party.” WHAT?!
“Sure! The more the merrier!” And Denver agreed.
I thought I could escape going out tonight, but in the end, I still ended up with a plan. Well, going to a party is better than going to a haunted hou- I mean, Maria’s house. I need to talk to Denver about this party, did he know that I needed a reason to bail, that’s why he told me that I was invited to a party? What if he just made that party up? Then we’ll both be dead.
“U-um Maria, I need to talk to Denver about tonight, excuse us.” I pulled Denver away and we both entered the next hallway. I made sure she didn’t follow us, and when I knew the coast was clear. I spoke to this guy.
“Hey, did you really mean what you said a while ago?” I asked with my arms crossed.
“Yup! You’re going to a party tonight.” he said with a big smile showing his teeth.
