"kun, c'mon! pass the frisbee!" prince haotian ran away from kun, raising his hands up in the air. kun thought that his highness' smile was contagious, making him wear a smile aswell.
"here i go!" 10 year old kun threw the frisbee upwards and used his wind abilities to steer the frisbee towards his playmate.
"gotcha!" prince haotian flew into the air, cathing the frisbee whilst in flight. the two laughed uncontrollably, rising up to the air to execute their 'flight handshake'.
"young master! your father summons you to the throne room!" one of haotian's servants approached the children. "aww, i guess we can't play anymore." haotian sulked looking down at his little feet.
"that's okay, i can come back tomorrow! can i? jiejie?" he asked the servant which replied with a heartwarming giggle. "of course, you are always welcome here!".
"see! now go see your father!" kun smiled at haotian. "okay, see you tomorrow!" haotian started walking towards the palace.
"see you tomorrow!" kun laughed as he continues to fly back home.
🌬
a few years passed and the two were still the best of friends. prince haotian was now 20 years old and coronation was 1 week away.
if it wasn't for the wu xing war. "your first responsibility as king is to protect the kingdom. your people should always come first". those words kept repeating inside haotian's mind.
"oi, haotian. why're you so out of it today? is something bothering you, king haotian?" kun managed to crack a smile in haotian's lips.
"it's nothing, guardian kun." he teased back, nudging him. "how's your guardian emblem?" he points at the shiny gem pinned to kun's shirt.
"stop it, haotian. just because you're about to be king means--what was that?" his ears perked up to the sound of footsteps coming towards them.
"shh, the diqiu kingdo--"
"in the flesh, king haotian with his pet." yongqin, the leader of the diqiu kingdom's guardians, a pet dog to the fire kingdom.
"what did you just call him?" haotian growls but kun stops his bestfriend from practically attacking the man.
"a pet." yongqin stomps hard to the ground making a series of seismic waves travel from undergound, splitting the ground into 2.
the two were agile enough to dodge the attack and use their flight abilities to avoid getting sucked in to the hole yongqin had made. kun raised his hand, wind forming to pick up the debris from the quake and aimed them towards yongqin.
yongqin simply catched the debris with his hands and threw them back to the 2 lads. kun used his second instinct to steer the rocks towards the nearby river.
"halt!" knights in silver and white uniform, the wind kingdom had sent the other guardians to the aid of the prince. but the earth kingdom also brought backup.
"prince haotian, please come with me to the palace!"
"no! i want to help!"
"haotian, listen to them. go back!" kun managed to say inbetween his dodges from yongqin's attacks.
🌬
it has been 2 weeks and kun still hasn't heard from the prince. the palace had postponed its coronation for some unknown reason. they also won't let kun inside the palace anymore.
and today was the day that the king granted him permission to enter for them talk about something very important.
"your highness," kun bowed down to the presence of the king, who wore a numb expression.
"you must be wondering why i have closed down the palace and deprived you of the right to interact with my son." kun nodded.
"this is because my son has been captured by the earth and fire kingdom. they kidnapped him and promised to release him when the air kingdom agrees to form an alliance. he refused and-and t-they--"
"they what?!" kun screamed in anger.
"they k-killed h-him!" the king burst into tears and kun was shocked. ulitmately. tears brimmed in his eyes as they fell down in a matter of seconds, still processing the fact that, his bestfriend is dead.
"no! it can't be!" he rushed out of the palace and flew to nowhere to find sanctuary.
