One day there was a girl in seventh grade, her name was Amanda. Amanda had a boyfriend. She was fortunate enough to have every class with him. She had older sisters and realized that a dance would come up. She knew that her boyfriend would ask her though. As it drew closer it seemed her boyfriend started acting obnoxious. Her boyfriends name was jack. Jack was doing everything Amanda hated! She was a nice girl though and didn't tell him and just put up with it. The one thing she hated most was when he said that she would leave him for another guy. She still loved him though, or so she thought. She would always text him and say she loved him he believed it as did she. Every time the dance came up in a conversation jack did something obnoxious. Amanda felt like it was his jitters so she went with it. Well after the what seemed like forever wait, the night came. She was so excited she could hardly bear it! She had talked with her best friend, Alice about what would happen. They both though jack would kiss Amanda. Well they started getting ready for hours upon hours in uncomfortable positions then the doorbell rang. She opened it knowing who it was. It was jack. He wore a purple shirt under a vest carrying a jacket. She said to herself "Wow he looks hot!" She shocked herself. She never said that. Maybe it's because if the purple. Well they got pictures there and went to the dance. Jack's mom filled a picture form out and they were getting ready for pictures when Amanda realized something. While they were posing for their pictures it seemed as if jack was avoiding her touch. She thought it was odd but moved on. As soon as that was done she was moving around and dancing like crazy! Everyone could see her! Some people even nicknamed her the Dancing Bug. She was having the time of her life. Every now and then she would go and sit by jack and ask him to dance. His reply was always the same, "I don't dance." She shook it off an kept going. Then with the dance thee quarters of the way done the long awaited slow song came on. Amanda slowed herself down, calmed her breathing, and started walking towards jack. When she got there, he was dancing with a chair. She said come dance with me. He ignored her. Well then he got yelled at, put the chair down, and sat down. Amanda pleaded to him, "Please come dance with me!" His response was like a needle in her arm, "I don't dance." She replied furiously, "Yes you do! I've seen you! You will dance with a chair but not me? It's the EXACT SAME THING!!!!" At that point she was yelling. Then as calm as could be he uttered the very words she hoped he wouldn't say, " I don't dance." She now didn't even want to talk to him. She said, "You know what? FINE!!" She walked away and sat by herself. After ten minutes a really good friend of hers came an asked if she was okay she replied a little glum, "I'm fine." Then he said, "Liar. I know something's wrong." She was a little ticked and said, "Daniel, I am okay you can go." With that Daniel got up and walked over to jack. They were talking she didn't know what he said but Alice was over there as well. Daniel was still talking but Alice came over in a little hurry. She said, "Amanda jack just said that he didn't care about you and Daniel can make his move on you." With this Amanda's eyes were watering. She briskly walked down the hall past the first bathroom into a farther bathroom. She was balling. A few people came in to talk then one convinced her to come out of the stall. While wiping her tears away she hears laughing outside the door. Next thing she knows, Daniel walks in. She starts to laugh and asked why he was in there. He told her that he didn't want Amanda crying and he was there as comfort. This made her feel good but also decently bad. It felt good because she had assurance that somebody cared for her. This also was bad because another boy came to comfort her who wasn't her boyfriend. Either way she didn't care. She emerged happier and ready to dance. She was still upset but every time she looked at jack, her eyes watered. She sat down and called her ride. They were supposed to take jack home he was outside waiting. They drove the car up to him and said get in, he just shook his head and walked away. We called and arranged a ride for him then left. As soon as Amanda got home she ran upstairs to her room and balled her eyes out. Her mother tried to comfort her but she had an itching feeling for her father. She told her dad everything. Then she went and told her mom. Of course she got another love lecture she didn't need but, that night she didn't sleep at all. She spent all night crying. The next week she had put up with his sorry excuses for apologies and his obnoxious behaviors long enough and dumped him. When she confirmed it happened, she was 100% happier. She told everyone she felt like a free independent woman. She looks over at jack and of course he's crying in his arms like a baby. She didn't care. He wasn't her problem anymore. That night he sent her insulting texts saying that he would kill himself and how his mother was disappointed in her. This made her upset. Why couldn't he just except it? She cried into another sleepless night. Amanda told her mom who texted jack and asked to limit his contact with her. He listened alright. The next day she overheard him telling his friends how it was completely unfair what Amanda had done and that he spent 4 hours just crying. Well after a month or two, the principal had brought up the dance, immediately like a bolt of lightning, the flashbacks of that night came rolling in. She walked up and got in line. Jack came up to her and said, " Here's your pictures." And walked away. She went home and divided it in half and gave his half to him the next day. It pained her to see him. But, now and forever Amanda will remember, the night it happened.
