All because of the heat

Kyle was standing between the bathroom door and his bed, a towel on his naked shoulders. He wore just a pair of large shorts, and I could see every inch of his abs. It wasn't obviously the first time I saw him almost naked—sometimes I'd seen him totally naked too—but, maybe because I missed him, today he seemed more beautiful than ever.

I felt suddenly embarrassed, in part because of the thoughts I'd just made, in part due to this new one, and so I looked away.

"Whatcha doin?"

I tried to calm down. He couldn't read my mind—and even if he could I had nothing to hide.

"Uhm—nothing?" I said in a casual tone, "I was just waiting, you see."

He took a few steps and reached the bed. "Are you blushing?"

I avoided his gaze. "Really? Maybe it's because it's too hot here, I can't breathe."

"Is it? I'll open the window." Finally, he moved away from me, and I took a breath.

The air flew in the room, and soon I felt better. I didn't really know what happened, but it must be the heat. It was too hot to be the end of August.

Kyle dried his hair with the towel and rested on the bed, his naked shoulder against mine. I let that last thought slip away from my mind. I was fine now, more fresh and clear-minded.

"So, Lime" Kyle started, messing up my hair like he often did, "what did you do while I wasn't with you? Your hair's so long!"

I complained and escaped from his hand, trying to comb my stupid hair. "It's not long, it's normal, if you stop messing it up!" I shook my head, trying to not smile. I missed him so much that I was happy even for an annoying thing like this. "I did nothing special" I replied at last, thinking about that new game.

He grinned. "I bet you've played all along."

Wow, he'd got me. "H-how would you know?"

He laughed and his trembling body shook mine too. "'Cause I put a secret camera in your room to spy on ya."

"You—what?"

I turned toward him, trying to understand if he was serious. He wasn't laughing anymore, it didn't seem a joke.

I nervously waited for a reply, thinking about all the things I'd done when I'd been alone in my room. I slept, ate, played—and played while sleeping or eating—and...he couldn't have seen it!

There'd been a day, a single one, when I hadn't used my computer to play. Seeing a porn was not a uncommon thing—I and Kyle had talked about it several times—but that day...that day I'd missclicked with the mouse and opened a different genre of video: a gay porn. I knew that I should shut it down, but it'd caught me and I just couldn't stop watching.

I was sure Kyle and his friends had never watched something similar. It wasn't normal to them.

"Hey, shortie? What are you thinking?"

"N-nothing!"

He grinned again. "Are you thinking about the porn you entertained yourself with?"

So it's true! I almost chocked. I'm done.

"I-It's not like that..." I stuttered. Then I thought better about his words. "But why did you put a camera in my room in the first place?"

Kyle burst into laughter, an arm on his belly. He shook his head and his hair fell on his forehead.

"Did you really fall for it?!" His laughs interrupted his words. "Why would I spy on you while I'm on holiday?" He calmed down and added: "But come to think of it, It'd be fun."

"N-no, it wouldn't." No matter how much I tried, I couldn't take that joke. Even though I was too relieved it was a joke.

"Man, you're terrified! I'm not scandalized by the fact that you see a porn, you know. We can even see one together if you like!"

I turned again towards him, meeting his cheerful eyes. His hair was almost dry, and the sunlight danced over the chocolate-brown strands, giving them a golden shade.

"Are you serious?"

He shrugged. "I did it with Phil and Chris." He was talking about his friends. His best friends after me.

Sometimes I thought that they were more suitable to be his friends: Phil and Chris were similar to him, unlike me. I was just an antisocial nerd boy who hadn't nothing to do with Kyle and his friends. But all of this didn't matter: our friendship was unbreakable.

But apparently he'd looked a porn with Chris and Phil, not me.

"What, why did you do something like—" I started to ask, undecided whether to be jealous or shocked.

He laughed again. He was the most cheerful guy I knew. And that was also why I couldn't sulk at his jokes.

"I'll show you someday" he replied, and I didn't know how to feel about it.

We remained in silence for a bit, watching the sun starting to set. After all that time without him, I just needed his presence at my side, and I knew that it was the same for him.

I kept thinking about what he'd just said. I couldn't get it out of my mind. I wasn't jealous of his friends, just—I wanted to be the first of all!

At last, I couldn't keep that hush. "I don't like the fact that you did something with them and not with me."

He turned towards me, but I didn't move to meet his gaze. After a bit, he took my chin with his fingers and forced me to look at him.

I saw his smile, I didn't expect it.

"You're so cute and adorable."

I didn't expect this too, but I recovered quickly.

"Shut up." I glared at him. "I was serious."

He became serious too, yet still cheerful. "Okay, okay. I'll show you, it's not that big of a deal."

I'll show you. What did that mean? Okay, Emil, keep calm. He did it with his friends, so it's nothing special for him. No, wait, it's nothing special at all. Yes, why should it be?

"You mean—today?!"

I couldn't explain why I got suddenly anxious, but I tried to hide it because he was so calm.

He nodded. "It's ok today. If you're sleeping over."

I tried to act as if it was nothing important, and I just nodded in reply, apparently disinterested. Both of us, anyway, already knew that I'd sleep here tonight.

I texted my mother to tell her and it was already time for dinner.

I couldn't help but thinking about that speech, and I barely ate.

It was all because of the summer heat.
