"So dearie, at that moment," the older woman adjusted her glasses, her pen and clipboard ready to write, "how did you feel?"
A shiver ran through your body, almost as if you had just fallen in a pile of snow. It was cold, you felt cold.. coughing, you began to think back. It only happened a year ago, so it shouldn't be a problem to recall.
But it was almost as if your brain had repressed those memories, afraid of remembering those moments. "I felt.. I-I felt.." you trailed off..
"I felt like I lost the ability to smile."
The shiver in your body grew, and you trembled. Whether it was because of the temperature of the room, or because of the fear that overtook your being, you weren't sure. All you knew is that your breaths were getting shorter..
And your vision was blurring. From tears? No.. it felt like you were genuinely going to faint. Feeling light-headed, you rubbed your temples. What was happening?
Wait. Why was it so windy? And why were you looking up at the sky? Hold up. Were you falling?! Looking down, you saw the green grass getting closer to you. Eyes widening, you screamed out in panic, "Oh shit!"
Flailing your arms, you tried to think of a way to soften the impact at least a little. Of course, that didn't work and there was no way you'd be able to land gently, especially with such little time to evaluate the situation.
Accepting your fate, you closed your eyes and just hoped for the best. Smashing into another human being, you heard a loud grunt from beneath you. Your bones sure felt the impact as well..
Instantly opening your eyes, the first thing you noticed was that you weren't dead yet! But as a gen z, your first thought was bruh moment, why didn't I die? Smh.
The second thing you noticed is that you were laying on top of a poor boy who wore a checkered haori. He groaned as he lay face forward in the dirt, because he had softened the blow for you. You rushed off him, (as fast as your sore joints would allow you), apologizing profusely.
"Oh my gosh!" You looked panicked, holding out your hand for him to grab, "I am so, so sorry!"
He gratefully took your hand, but looked at you with a strange expression. Had.. you just fallen out of the sky? And that language you were speaking sure wasn't Japanese, he could tell that for sure.
"Uh.. I'm sorry, I have no clue what you're saying.." he awkwardly trailed off, looking at you.
You, on the other hand, had no idea what was being said. Blinking owlishly, you deadpanned, "huh?" What language even was he speaking? You couldn't seem to decipher it.
Looking at his attire, it looked strangely familiar, yet you couldn't quite place your finger on it. It seemed strangely old fashioned, like something you'd see in a history textbook.
"Can you understand me?" The boy in the checkered haori asked, but it fell upon deaf ears because you had absolutely no clue what he was saying. He looked at you for a moment, awaiting an answer but quickly realizing he probably wasn't going to get one.
Eye twitching, you felt a little frustrated. You had just fallen out of the sky, now in some some random place that you didn't know the name of, and no one seemed to speak English. "I'm speaking English! Where am I?" You asked, knowing he wouldn't understand.
It was now his turn to blink owlishly at you, eyes beady as he stared at you. "Uhh.." he tried to rack his brain for ways he could communicate with you. He pointed at himself, "Kamado Tanjiro!"
You looked at him surprised, before you realized what he was doing. Pointing at yourself, you introduced yourself in return, "[First Name]!" .. You didn't know this was Japan, where they introduced themselves last name first.
The red-headed boy, who you just found out that his name is Tanjiro, smiled— wait a damn minute.
Did he just say.. Tanjiro? As in.. Tanjiro Kamado? As in.. DEMON SLAYER TANJIRO?! What the actual fuck?! Okay, you tried to think rationally, maybe it was just cosplay, right? A cosplayer who just got too into character.
Sighing, that had to be the only reasonable explanation.
Tanjiro gasped out of nowhere, feeling his back. Where was the box that was supposed to be on his back? The one that had his dear sister in it? Looking panicked, he tried to find it. He nervously looked at the ditch beside them, seeing the wooden box.
Running over to it, he called out her name, "Nezuko?!" He shouted in worry, picking up the box to look inside.
You stood there awkwardly, unsure of what to do. Maybe there was a Nezuko cosplayer in there too? "Oh so you guys are cosplaying Demon Slayer, right? That's like.. cool as fuck!" You grinned, oblivious to the genuine panic coming from Tanjiro.
The boy put it on his back, having no idea what you were saying. He walked over to you, knowing he had no way to speak to you. So he just.. pointed at you, proceeded to then point at himself, and do a little walking motion with his fingers, trying to tell you to come with him.
Surprisingly, you understood what he was trying to convey. Nodding, you gestured for him to follow the way. Maybe he'd take you back to civilization where you could talk to someone who spoke English? That was the best case scenario you could hope for.
You were very wrong. What was coming was a whole different adventure.
