Visiting Aunt Ella?

Your quill bounced up and down, your hand shaking, miserably. You glanced out your window, peeking at the time. You released an exasperated sigh as you stared out into the night, it was already past one in the morning. You had somehow managed to spend the entire afternoon in the Astronomy Tower with Cedric, no one seeming to notice that you had disappeared. When you had finally parted ways, you were filled with anxiety and dread. You hoped and prayed that his ingenious plan would succeed, though you had to admit, it was rather risky.

Sitting at your desk, you racked your brain, searching for the allusive words you needed to compose an eloquently written letter. If this plan was going to succeed, you would need your Mother's assistance. You knew that she loved you and would want to help, but the only problem was, it would require her to lie to your Father, a man whom she was terrified of. While it was true, William Middlebrook didn't enjoy the company or presence of his children, that did not mean that he would allow you to disappear for 3 months, with no explanation. He would have to do research of his own, unless, your Mother had already given her approval, in which case, there would be no need for doubt or suspicion. He knew that his wife feared him more than death itself, which made it unfathomable to him that she would ever go against his demands, let alone, help you pull off a lie, that broke just about every rule in his book.

You dipped the tip of your quill into the jet black ink, contemplating how to start the letter. Your Mother, would be reluctant, you knew that. She would not want to cross your Father, but if you were able to form a compelling argument, there was a glimmer of hope. You inhaled sharply as you began to write, watching as your quill danced across the parchment.

Dear Mum,

I received Father's letter this morning and I can only assume that you have been informed of my so-called scandal. I wanted to provide you with an explanation, seeing as you are entitled to the truth. Mr. Flich was not mistaken, I have been out past curfew and I have been with a boy, a Hufflepuff. I know that you do not hold the same House prejudices as Father does but I know that you will be disappointed knowing that I have broken the rules. His name is, Cedric, and well, we have recently entered into a romantic relationship. I met Cedric, on my first day here, at Hogwarts and we have managed to stay friends, ever since. In secret, of course. With so many House prejudices and Father's rules, we have had to be inconspicuous, thus explaining my wanderings after hours, as we could not be seen together. I know that it was a big risk and extremely dangerous, but I am begging you, please, do not tell Father. You know better than anyone what he will do if he finds out. Mum, I want to please you and I want to make you happy, but every time I look into a mirror, I see my body covered in scars, bruises, and unhealed wounds. I cannot do this any longer, the abuse is too much. I have fallen in love with Cedric, which I know goes against Father's warnings about fraternizing with other Houses, but it couldn't be helped. Cedric has offered to let me stay with him over Holiday, something Father would never approve of, but he doesn't have to know. You are going on Holiday to France, to visit with Aunt Ella and if you could convince him that you've decided to take me with you, he wouldn't suspect anything out of the ordinary. I realize what I am asking you to do, I am asking you to lie to Father, but I cannot keep living like this! I promise you, that I will write to you constantly and I will only stay for half the summer if that would make you more comfortable, before coming to meet you in France. Matthew is staying with the Malfoy's, so he will be out of harm's way and you will be staying with Aunt Ella, which will ultimately keep you from his wrath. I love you and you know that I would do anything for you, Mum, but I am so tired of living in a constant state of fear. I want one day, outside of school, where I am not terrified that it could be my last. Please, Mum? Please just give me a bit of time away...

I patiently await your reply as I wish you the best! — Love, (Y/N)

You exhaled, heavily, rereading your work cautiously. This had to work, didn't it? You weren't sure what you would do if she rejected your plan, you hadn't gotten that far. Perhaps she would still allow you to accompany her to France? You sighed, cracking your knuckles and stretching your cramped fingers as you pulled a green envelope from your desk drawer. You stared down at the blank envelope, before carefully addressing it. Your hands shook as you melted the emerald wax, quickly stamping the Slytherin House Crest into the sticky substance. Pulling the stamp back, you stared down at the imprint of the snake. Here goes nothing.

You got to your feet, filled with anxiety. You crossed your room, sliding open the metal lock on your owl's cage. Holding your arm out, he gently perched himself upon it, chirping quietly, clearly excited for his next adventure. You smiled, as you stroked his head, lovingly. You passed him your envelope as he gingerly took it in his beak. Pushing open the glass window, as your dorm was above the lake's surface, you allowed Einstein to move from your arm to the window's ledge. You smirked, thinking of how he had gotten his name. Matthew was only 7 when you had received the hatchling and he had insisted that the owl be named Olwbert Einstein—Einstein for short. The bird cocked his head, looking at you with his piercing eyes, your letter clamped tightly in his beak. "That's a good boy, Einstein. If you would please deliver this letter to Mother, it would be greatly appreciated, but as always, make sure Father isn't home," you whispered, as he spread his large wings and disappeared over the horizon.
