When I had woken up, the sun had already risen and Alex was already up. Groggily I sat up and stretched my sore muscles.
No, I don't know how I was sore since I wasn't the one doing any work.
"Hey, look who's finally up. Go wake up Jason would you?" she was sitting next to the lake where we had had our dinner last night and sharpening a piece of flint on another rock. I wasn't sure how I knew but I felt like Alex had changed gender.
"Oh, and my pronouns are he, his, him. It's a new day!" (hooray for me being right). I got up off my comfortable rock bed - totally should get one. Definitely recommend it. Incredibly amazing for your back and I think Mattress Firm sells it - and I shuffled over to where Jason lay, drooling. Smirking, I held onto his shoulder and shook hard.
"WUZZAT. AMY I LOVE YOU." Jason yelled, still half asleep. I snickered, nothing like Jason confirming his love to your sister to start your day.
"JASON. Wake up!" I shook him harder and finally, he sat up.
"Whad'-I miss?" he asked, rubbing his eyes.
"Eh, nothing much. Though you should've heard Jack snoring like a pig last night." Alex said, still sharpening his stone. I blushed furiously and looked away.
Suddenly, we heard clanking coming from the entrance to the cavern. I froze, trying to burn a hole through the rock with my eyes as I struggled to see what made that noise.
"Look, up there. You see the sun shining off of something right there? That's a drone." Jason whispered.
Huh, he's got at least 2 brain cells. That's decent. Then, I heard whirring and more clanking and something inaudible.
"Are they....talking?!" I asked pretty loudly. Alex and Jason both glared at me and shushed me. Hmph, when I make an observation what do THEY do...huh? I looked back at the entrance and could just make out what they were saying.
"Hey Frederick, you gonna finish that oil gallon?"
"Nah man. You can have it."
"Gee thanks man." (cue the faint but disgusting slurping noise).
Don't even ask me why the Queen named one of her drones Frederick. Hell, why would you even NAME a drone. The two drones stayed at the entrance for a while and my legs were beginning to fall asleep.
"Yo bro, you think the annoying, useless homeless guy is down there?" the Frederick drone said.
"Nah man. My patrol went down there yesterday and we lost Timothy to some water. Sad times man. Sad times."
"May he rest in peace...." Several seconds past before the other drone said,
"Hey man you wanna leave?"
"Yeah bro." With a few whirring sounds and clanking, the two drones began their ascent towards the palace. My entire body relaxed and lungs ached. I realized that I had held my breath for this entire time and now everytime I took a breath, my head swam. Slowly, I took slow and deep breaths until I had calmed down.
"Hey, can we go now?" I asked.
"Yeah sure, this place is too damp and I wanna see Amy." Jason said. He quickly materialized his angel wings and began the probably-more-than-five-minutes ascent. Realizing that my ride had just left, I turned and stared at Alex.
"What." he said matter of factly, "Oh no. Come on, you're so overweight." Snickering, he Shifted into a dragon. "Well, what are you waiting for? Get on here and hurry up." I hurried over to Alex and climbed onto his back.
