Summer this year is really hot.
Maybe it's even a new record?
The lemons growing in our garden shine in a bright yellow.
Even though I'm only wearing my bra and shorts am I sweating way to much.

The sun is about to go down and I'm waiting for my friends Kelly and Bratt to pick me up.
The days are long and hot.
It's always the same, nothing new happens.
Holidays used to be fun but since it's so hot it ain't anymore.
With each year the summer gets longer and hotter.

I get up and open a window.
A fresh summer breeze brushes through my hair.
My Bluetooth-box makes its usual noise as I turn it on and put on "In between days" from the cure.

I sit down in front my mirror and do a perfect grungy eyeliner and brush trough my hair.
The phone screen turns on as I get a notification.
Kelly texted me that they were almost there,
so I get up and walk to my closet and decide what I'm going to wear.

I pick out a high-waisted jeans-shorts in a washed-out-black and a pink crop top.
That all gets finished off with some accessories.
The doorbell rings and I run down stairs.

"Bye mum!"
"Have fun, honey!"
I open the door with a bright smile only to see that it's the weird kid from next door.
Finley.

My smile fades into disgust and annoyance.
I often catch him starring into my room from the street.
Creep.

"What do you want?"
He looks very anxious.
His brown locks cover his green eyes.
"Uhm... I-I was wondering... if you... if you maybe want to hang out with me?"
Not even for a million bucks.

"Sorry I don't have time."
I give him a polite smile and look up the street hoping to see Bratts car somewhere.
"Oh okay... well sorry for bothering you then."
He turns around and walks away.

I step outside and see the big old van driving down the street.
My smile returns again as I walk towards my friends.
The sun is burning on my skin and the stuffy air in the car doesn't make it any better.

"Hey, Sweetie!", Bratt greets me while I hug Kelly.
"What was Finley doing here?"
Kelly looks at me with concern.
"He wanted to hang out with me!"
We burst out in laughter.

I don't like being mean... but Fin is such a weirdo who's obsessed with me since I moved here.
In middle school he gave me a dead raccoon as a gift.

"So where do y'all want to go, girls?" Bratts says in an excited tone.
"What about the old skatepark? The one outside of the town." I suggest.
"Oh yeah I love this place! It's so aesthetic!"
I giggle at Kelly's dreamy face until suddenly someone knocks against the van.

Bratt lets down the window to reveal that it's Finley.
"Can I come with you, guys?"
"Listen I'm sorry mate, but you can't!"
Bratt tries to talk in a polite tone.
"But why? I won't be a weirdo, I promise!"
He looks really hopefully at us but Bratt doesn't give a shit.

"Listen here, you little shit! Do you really think it's a good idea, taking some random bloke, who's creeping around your best friends house, with you? Thought so and now fuck off you twat!"

Bratt starts the car but Fin doesn't go away.
No one says a word after we've driven away until I break the silence: "Don't you think you were a bit to rude?"
"Maybe but I don't care!"
