Heroes & Villains

Ex: 01 |Prologue

This story takes place in Chatham, Massachusetts. A real place with imaginary geography and peculiar people. There are three parts of town:
1. South Chatham: lakes lined with forests & Hero Prep School
2. Center Chatham: quaint town with the town hall & town square & Chatham High
3. North Chatham: expensive mansions located in the mountains & Villain Academy

Like other small towns across the country, we have a population of wholesome, hardworking people. However, amongst the normal public of Chatham lies an inner group of individuals who have super-human abilities known as meta-humans. Humans have a segment in their DNA called the meta gene, which is past down through the generations. In some families, it's very common, where all individuals are granted abilities. In others, it's more rare, like some old folklore past down that no one really quite believes in.

I'm known as a Fulmen, derived from the latin root meaning lightning. I have the ability control and create lightning through surges of electricity (Electrokinesis). I was just a normal girl going to Chatham High until I was 14. When the Hero Agency found out about my abilities, they enrolled me into their academy.

My great uncle Desmond warned me how rare my abilities were and how Fulmen were recruited to the dark side in ancient times. There aren't many of us still around. Some were hunted and slaughtered, and those who could escape disappeared amongst the common-folk, abstaining from having children so the gene could disappear. It was deemed to be extinct,  like it never even existed.

My parents knew what their bloodline entailed; that's why they put an inhibitor chip in my neck so I would never discover my abilities in the first place. Most metas have the super ability of super strength or telekinesis, which usually appear around the age of 10.

I truly think I was destined to be an outcast. Not only was I the "new girl" in a meta-school, but my powers were seen as strange and unnatural. Powers like super strength and telekinesis are common amongst metas and are derived from a human function. Physical strength and strength of mind; these are human characteristics, but there is nothing human about lightning. Abilities that revolve around nature are seen as threatening because humans were never meant to control such things. It's an imbalance of the universe and a mistake of nature.

In North Chatham lies another school known as the Valiant and Intelligent Liberal Learning Academy for the Impeccably Notorious. Also infamously coined the name "V.I.L.L.A.I.N Academy". Just like Slytherin was known for producing the cruelest wizards, the Villain Academy was known for creating wicked souls.

Like our government has top secret organizations such as the CIA or FBI, the meta community has the Prime Council. A collection of the best of meta-kind, who protect the world from the shadows. They also uphold and regulate the laws and keep the harmony between all meta humans. The Prime Council was formed as a unification merge to practice co-existence, of all metas. (Regardless if their bloodline was light or dark, good or bad, made of heroes or of villains).

Just like our ancestors before us learned to co-exist, so did we. The Hero Prep School and Villain Academy act as rival schools. They compete in sports, academic triathlons, and even fundraisers together for local charities to paint the façade of a normal life. But nothing is ever that black and white.

This leads you to me. I'm Seraphine Grove and my parents were charged with treason by the Prime Council; what I refer to as the "Dark Awakening" when I was 10.

This is the story of me trying to find out more about my past as well as my attempt to defeat the obstacles between me and a stable future. This led me on my first off-the-book, secret co-op mission at SAROM Labs. I would be lying if that's all this story entailed.

In the midst of me uncovering the past, I met someone who altered everything. I met Kal Knox.
