It has been a week since my incident at SAROM labs, and I have been inadvertently trying to keep my mind busy from spiraling again. I haven't told anyone what, I mean who, I saw on that roof. I visited the library for the fifth time a few days ago, signed up to participate in the Chatham High bake sale and even RSVP' ed to the Academy sponsor luncheon. All these meaningless activities to serve one purpose: to keep my mind off of that night.

Every year the Academy holds a luncheon with the esteemed Hero Agency members and Prime Council leaders as well as a few elite heroes that occasionally stop by. Students who qualify for the top 10% in their respective categories are invited and for field agents, it's one of the most exclusive gatherings you can attend. The Academy always urges me to be there, though I think I've only gone once before.

Field agents are able to display their abilities for the agency to see, which allows them to build  connections. Because I'm a Fulmen, the Hero Prep always keeps me in their back pocket and displays my abilities to the top Agency members.

Currently I'm at Chatham High setting up for the bake sale. The funding is to get new uniforms for the lacrosse team. Charlie was so thrilled I was participating. All of his other friends' girlfriends are always doing this kind of stuff, I usually wouldn't be into the whole idea about selling baked goods, but it's a good distraction. The luncheon is later this evening and I'm planning on spending my day hanging out with Charlie at the bake sale. Normal will be good for me. I need normalcy right now.

"Hey babe" Charlie says, planting a kiss on my lips, "You look stunning". He sneaks one of the cookies and creme cupcakes I made into his mouth. Stunning is not necessarily how I would describe myself. My pink sweater has a few spots of cocoa powder on them and my fading yellow ribbon I tied in my hair is not really stopping it from looking unruly. I should have just made box mix brownies like the rest of the girls.

"Thank you- hey, that's for the sale!" I attempt to grab it back but it's no use, "At this pace you'll be lucky if you guys get socks" I huff. As I'm about to plant a kiss on his cheek I hear one of his guys shout "Davenport! You gotta see this".
"Sera save me another piece, I'll be back in a few." He winks in my direction before sprinting towards the cluster of guys on the other side of the field. I let out a small laugh.
The sun has just started its descent, but it seems like ten hours have passed as I've been stuck at this table over charging people for my cupcakes and making absolute painful small talk with the other girls. Charlie is no where in sight; even though he promised he would help me out. I hoped we would be able to spend some time together.

After what feels like lifetime, I finally get a break. I should really text Charlie to see where he is. My finger slides to unlock my phone and I read the time: 5:45 No, no no no. Oh gosh. The luncheon is at 6:15 and not only do I have to be fully suited and groomed for when the Agency arrives, but it's all the way on the other side of town in North Chatham.

Luckily, I see Charlie and his friends sit down on the steps outside the school. My hair tousles even more in the wind as I sprint over.

"Charlie, I'm late, I'm late to my luncheon". I'm out of breath and fully panicked. Everyone already sees me as the odd girl, I can't be the odd girl who shows up late when Hero Prep is counting on me abilities to impress the agency. Oh no no no.

"What, are you sure? The bake sale isn't-".

"Yes now" I grab his hand to force him to stand. "I need you to drive me home so I can pick up my uniform.... um I mean my uniformly um fitted dress.. and drive me to North Chatham".
