First, sorry but... Glowing cats?! Scientists were trying to insert a gene into the cat embryo to prevent cat AIDs. But they weren't sure if the gene made it to its destination so they attatched another, luminescent gene to it so they could track it. Both genes multiplied and the cats glow! Seriously! Look it up it's amazing!
I quickly shower with the luke warm water. I can't use all the hot, but I can't use cold this morning. I climb out and slip on my skinny jeans and plain black t-shirt. Most of my shirts are plain black, grey, or white. They're all t-shirts or tank tops, as they're all undershirts since they're pretty cheap for a pack. I slip on the leather jacket my Dad gave me when I was little. It was far too big then, but I've grown into it well.
I run a hand through my hair. It's naturally black, and its shaved around the sides, coming to a point in the back. It's a little longer in the front to help cover the large redish brown, fleshy burn scar covering the area of my left eye. I know people say that having hair in your eye can damage your vision, but considering I'm already blind in that eye I don't think it'll be an issue. I lace up my black combat boots.
I admit that I look emo. I guess I am emo. But no one really cares. The most I get are a few pitiful glances when they see my bruises, or some rude comment in passing. Doesn't matter though. I just have to get through the year, then I can head off to college.
I unlock the bathroom door and peek outside. Mom is no where in sight. I grab my bag, which I take with me to the bathroom with my clothes so I can just shower, dress, and make a run for the front door.
My stomach growls but I ignore it. I'll grab an apple or something later. I cant afford the blood I need and food for Aspen. Speaking of, he's sitting quietly by the bathroom door.
"Stay hidden okay? I'll be back after work." I tell him. He nods, licks me, and quietly runs back to my room, where he nudges the door shut behind him.
I make it to the front door without a problem. Mom is either drunk, asleep, or still getting ready for work. I can never tell which as it varies from day to day. But after the other night I'm just glad I didn't run into her again.
I only live a couple miles from school, but I have to stop on the way. I work at a small shop in the mornings stocking shelves before the store opens. I'm only paid about 6 dollars per morning, but it's the only work I've got aside from Mr. Charlie, who I help for an hour after school. He's blind, and I help him sith basic cleanup on weekdays. On the weekends his neice comes down to make his meals for the week and wash his beeding and help him bathe and such. He's only 60, and not in horroble shape, but his wife is dead and he's blind. He pays 10 an hour, and he's a really nice guy. He knows about me and my style, but he doesn't judge me. I think he genuinely enjoys my company and help. He's the highlight of my day.
I get into the store and quickly load the carts with the things on the list, then hurry to stock the shelves. Food, toilet paper, alcohols, candles, some toys. Then I'm off to school.
The crowds ignore me unless they're making useless comments. Or trying to avoid me. I reach my locker quickly. It's hot inside, so I take off my leather jacket. No one ever minds my scars and bruises anyway.
But of course, someone did, or I wouldn't be telling this story, would I?"Dain!" I glance around my locker door to see 3 people walking toward me. The secretary from the front office who always where's too much purple eye shadow, AKA Plum. And two kids, both blond with bright green eyes. One boy and one girl. Both tall, both toned, and both gorgeous. I may be gay, but Damn I'm not blind.
"Plum." I turn back to my locker, shoving my jacket in it before slaming it shut. All 3 of them are standing right in front of me.
"Woah. Okay. You're gonna need to take a step back." Plum puts her hands up, ducking her head. The other two look confused but step back as well. The girl is taller them Plum, but shorter than her brother. I'm about the same height as her brother.
"Right, Dain, this is Anna and Samuel. They have your classes. Um they're new. If you'd just show them around, that would be great." Plum turns and hurries off in the other direction. I look at the pair in front of me. Twins maybe. They smell... Different. The boy smells sweet. Like dark chocolate and vanilla.
The seem to take me in too. They both study me. Taking in every purple and black bruise, to the minor yellowish ones from last week. From the large scar running around my bicep where mom swiped at me with a broken bottle, to the smaller ones where I've fallen into glass or even had a chair thrown at me. The girls, Anna's, smile seems to soften as she looks up at me with a more pitying look. But Samuels smile completely disapears and he looks sad and angry at the same time. Why do I feel bad?
"Are you done? Because we need to get to math." I tell them. His eyes linger on my left eye just a bit too long before he answers, and I know he saw it.
"Who did that to you?" They ask at the same time.
"No one. I'm handling things. You done?"
"I guess." Sam sounds unsure but Anna just shrugs.
"Then follow me." I turn to go to our class. A moment later they're right beside me, practially skipping. Both with stupid grins on their faces.
"Why are you... It is way to early to smile that brightly." I mumble. But they heard me.
"Already made a new friend, why not smile?" Anna says.
"First, no. Second, also no." I groan as I walk into math. People don't even try to hide their stares like they normally do. Well, like most normally do. But the phsycopath just walked in with 2 adorable, innocent looking kids with huge smiles. Why wouldn't they stare? I grab the work sheet from the table inside the door, and head to the back. I expected the two to go mingle with the other outgoing teens, talking about their winter breaks and how great it was to see their family again.
But they follow me to the back where they sit in front and beside me. What in the Hell is this?
