At the house, Jermy, Amanda, Sam, and a few others are outside. As soon as I step out of the car, Del runs to me.
"Tector!" He shouts, running straight into my leg, wrapping himself around it. I stumble back, falling onto the car, and tousle his hair. Sam comes around the car and re attatches himself to my side.
"Hey, were heard there a was a knife fight." Jermy looks scared as he aproaches. Anna runs out of the little crowd to hug us. Her eyes are red a teary, and her face streaked. The streets are empty and the moon's high. It's gotta be at least midnight or one. Ace and Eve come to stand beside us.
"There's been a threat." Heather anounces. "Two men came into the resteraunt tonight and held Samuel with a knife and gun." There's several gasps and questions, "But his mate, and the newest member of our pack," she wraps her arm around my shoulders, "resolved the situation. It was a suicide mission but he stopped more than one death tonight. That said they're going to the cells for questioning under maximum security. At least until we resolve the threat. Stay inside your homes with the doors locked. Ace and Eve are staying with us, they're Dain's siblings, and his parents will be here in the morning."
"Were there any injuries?" Someone asks.
"Dain's hand was severely cut up, since one of the attackers did use a knife in the assault. He has a total of twenty three stitches, but nothing life threatening." She says. Everyone grumbles but they don't seem to have any more questions. The group starts to disperse, and Jermy takes Del from my leg.
"I guess you really are the protector." Sam mutters as we make out way up the stairs.
"I guess I am." I know I'm scowling again but I've earned my pessemistic behaviour for the evening.
Once we get inside, Aspen runs to me, sniffing me over. I pat his head as I head to my room to change. He lays quietly at the foot of the bed, watching me with sad eyes. I slip off my pants, and manage to slip on some black sweats that cuff at the bottom. (A few days after I moved in they took me to get some clothes). But I struggle to unbutton my shirt with just one hand. Someone knocks on my door.
"Dain? Are you okay?" Sam's voice is muffled by the door.
"I can't get this shirt off..." I grunt in frustration.
"Do you want help?" He asks. My hand slips as I try another button but my hand slips. Aspen whimpers, nudging my hip. I sigh in defeat.
"Please?" He slowly opens the door, peeking in before coming to sit beside me on the bed. He's got on his own shorts and tank top, and his hair's a mess. He looks wide awake, and still nervous. But even with shaky hands, he manages to unfasten the top buttons.
"Hey boys, we're gonna-" Sandra and Heather come in, pausing a moment when they see the situation. But Sam doesn't stop helping unbutton my shirt. I can only look away.
"We made some snack for you, and we're probably going to go to bed. You don't have to go to bed right now though, you can watch some tv or something if you want. If anything happens, don't be afraid to come get us." Heather smiles. I nod and they turn away. Sam quickly finishes with the buttons.
"Thank you." I whisper. He shakes his head, sighing.
"Thank you. I'm so sorry."
"Why?" I ask. He helps slip the shirt off my shoulder, grabbing the tank top.
"Thank you for saving me tonight." He whispers.
"Anyone else would have." I shrug as he gathers the tank top for me to more easily put on. It's less of a tank top, and more of a shirt with the sleeves cut off, the arm pits hanging low to expose my sides, making it nice and loose.
"Anyone else would have called the police or warriors and waited until they could safely diffuse the situation." He scowls.
"Sure. And as soon as they had an audience, they may have killed themselves and you. I couldn't take any chances." I pull him into a hug. He's tense, but seems to realax a little. Only a little.
"Come on, lets go get those snacks." I stand, groaning. My whole body is even more sore than before, but not as bad as when I first got here. Well, my hand's the exception. I can feel my jaw turning dark purple. "I'm gonna stop by the bathroom first." We seperate in the hall.
I do my buisiness and wash my hand the exposed fingers, between which the bandages are securely wrapped, covering the rest of my lower right arm. My jaw, as a suspected, has a huge, dark bruise that covers the whole lower left side. I brush my fingers against it, flinching. It hurts. Obviously.
In the living room, Sam has curled up in Sandra's big recliner with a plate of blueberry cheesecake. Anna has her own, scrolling through cartoons on the tv on the couch. On the other end of the couch is Ace and Eve, also eating cake, both with steaming mugs in front of them. On the table is another plate of cheesecake and a mug of blood.
"Hey stand up a minute." I walk to Sam. He stands, looking confused. I sit in Heather's chair and carefully pull him down in my lap with my good arm. He grins, handing me my cheesecake and setting my mug on the table beside the chair. Normally we wouldn't sit in these chairs, but I'm sure Sandra won't mind for the night.
Aspen settles at the foot of the chair, his head on his paws, watching everyone. As Anna looked for a movie, we talked with Ace and Eve. They're nice. They're both looking for their own mates, and live with the clan. They like to run and play with the kids, Ace likes to read and draw but Eve prefers to game.
We decided on a movie. Treasure Planet. Fun and animated. Until it wasn't so fun. It was sad. I sipped my blood first. It's not as good when it's cold. Then I sucked on the cheesecake. Sam finally relaxed, but still wouldn't sleep. Anna got up to go to bed, showing my brother and sister to my room so they could sleep. I turned on The My Little Pony Movie. Halfway through the movie, we paused it to hear yelling outside. The clock on the wall said it was almost four.
I could hear the two men laughing and threatening and talking about how Troy was coming. Sam started shaking again.
"Listen to me." I turned his head to look at me. "If someone is coming, they're in for a huge surprise. There's a whole pack of werewolves and some vampires waiting to kick their asses. I won't let anyone hurt you." I assure him. He nods quietly. After a few minutes, I start the movie again.
