Let us start from the beginning. That is the only way that you'll understand the gravity of this situation and the mess that we are in. Also, it is the only that I can arrange the chain of events which has led us – the world – into this peril.

The truth.

A very relative term, don't you think? What is true to person 'A' may be false to person 'B'. It depends on how we perceive things. Just because we haven't seen or witnessed something does not necessarily mean that it's false, or that it doesn't exist. Has any one of us seen or witnessed the creation of the universe? I think not. But does that does not mean that we refute the creation of the universe, does it?

I say this because what I am about to enumerate and unfold is a series of events that may appear to be 'made up' or 'conjured from thin air' or whatever it is you people call it these days in reference to a blatant lie.

But it is not. It is the truth. And just because you people haven't witnessed it yet does not mean that it does not exist. I wish it didn't, but as I said, the truth – the fact – is that it does.

Alright! Now that we've got that out of the way, let me continue. But stay focused! Stay conscious! I don't have much time!

If my memory serves me right – which I hope it does, I don't know how much longer I have before I forget who I am altogether, but let us hope, for the sake of the world, that I get all the details right – this entire wretched ordeal began two years back on my trip to China. It wasn't a vacation; I was there for work and work only.

You see, we were exploring the idea of...no let that rest, for now, you don't need to know that right now. Just understand that we were experimenting and exploring something which would re-shape our understanding of the entire universe: what is it, how it was created, why it was created, etc. You understand right? Do you see why it was so important?

I wish I knew then what we were actually doing – what we were unleashing. I would have rather died than damned this world to doom. Alas, what is done is done. I am not re-counting the most horrific events of my life so that I can mope around in self-pity and anguish.

Let us continue.

So, China. Yes, it is true that everything started and began in China, but it wasn't their fault. Like me, they didn't know what they were doing.

Sadly, none of us did...

So I went to China to experiment with our theory - to see if it actually works.

Just so you all know, it had to be China. Not just because it was already ordained to begin from there, but because China was best suitable for the subject of our experiment. No other place was equipped as well as China and so it just had to be it. There were no doubts or reluctance regarding it. The moment we were given a head go to test our theory, we all knew it just had to be China.

If I think of it now, I can't help but smile.

It was all so perfect. So convincing. Their promise for a better future, promise for a better life, for a better world...that's what doomed this world.

Promises. Never make promises you can't keep.

I remember the long journey. How spent and exhausted I felt when I exited the private jet and finally felt my feet touching solid land. I was overwhelmed, no doubt. The theory that I had been working on was finally accepted! It was to be experimented on in a few hours and if it turned out to be a success...it would have changed the world!

How can someone not be excited at that? I mean I didn't know what was about to happen...how could I? You understand right? I'm not the evil person here; I didn't know that they were using me.

We went straight to the laboratory.

Amongst all this chaos and mess, I still feel like I am obliged to secrecy, code and honor, which is why I won't be mentioning any names. But rest assured, I will give you the whole truth – as much as I possibly can before they find me...

The lab was already prepped with the appliances and equipment needed for the ensuing experiment. All we had to do was punch in a few codes, set right a few algorithms and that was it. It was surprising and appalling at how prepared these people were. It looked as if they were just as excited and elated as the rest of us.

However, I realized too late that they weren't our people. In fact, they weren't people at all...And now I realize that they were elated for many different reasons than us.

It worked! The experiment worked. My greatest achievement and the best day of my life – to witness my life's work come to fruition. Yet, now that I think of it, it was the worst day of my life and soon became my biggest regret.
