Chapter 24

More glass fell from the room above shattering on the floor into small pieces. Beel, Lucifer and I stayed to the wall still aware there might be small pieces of the grimoire dotted here and there. I took the lead, the foot of the stairs was just up ahead, the leathery hardback of the grimoire sent chills down my spine yet I kept telling myself that I was going to be fine.

You're not a demon Y/N, stop, don't chicken out now. You need to do this for Lucifer. 

Beel and Lucifer's figures seemed to closer than how we'd usually walk, knowing that the force was upon us made them felt like they had to protect me which I admired. But in the situation, it was the other way around. I was the only able to solve this without getting harmed spiritually or mentally. There was always still the physical side which made my wrist throb harder.

More screams and yelling came from above, the ripped paper was on the floor in small pieces but was silently burning. The edge started disintegrated slowly engulfing itself. I stopped in my tracks, my train of thought stopped while I gazed at the paper on the floor. Lucifer grappled onto Beel's arm and pulled him back.

I gritted my teeth and looked down at my arms and saw the paper inside the hard leather start crumbling. The paper shrunk inwards- suddenly a weight fell from a height and it was Aurelius. He looked ragged and tired. Levi and Asmo definitely put up a fight. His gloves were off revealing his bare fingers. His hair was unkempt as his figure thumped against the cold lino.

"FAR OUT ASMO!" cursed Levi from above, his hair sticking every direction possible. His hands rise up in frustration making me grin slightly. Asmo popped from behind him; his face drenched with sweat that he would never submit to.

"The sly devil slipped okay," Humphed Asmo, gazing down at Aurelius satisfied.

Lucifer and Beel hopped to their feet taking their defensive stance. Aurelius glared at me, his face wrenched knowing I had his book in my hands. 

"L-L," 

His eyes squinted and he started staring at me not breaking his gaze.

My eyes darted from him then back at the book, I didn't want to show weakness at him. For all the things he's done to us, he'd crossed the line and put all of the people I cared about in danger. But as the saying goes no one is perfect. The man in front of me merely just wanted to reunite with his lover.

I could fully understand his pain.

*Aurelius' P.O.V*

My heart was beating quicker than ever before. That wretched human, all I ever wanted was to see Lilith again. I deeply regret everything that happened that afternoon, when I saw her dash out of the parlour I knew something was wrong. Of course, I wasn't sober enough to understand what happened. Right after that no longer heard from her nor her brothers.

Curse them all.

 As my life bound grimoire started deteriorating in her hands I started to feel drowsy and weak. I had lost this fight, all the pieces around the room started vanishing into small pieces of dust swirling outside the hall doors.

The human glanced at me with confusion, like she was fighting her emotions. All I had done to her and she still wanted to stay close. Her eyebrows furrowed I had chained her up I had put her allies in peril how could she not despise me to the core?  I despised her and Lilith's brothers. 

She told me lies. Lies. It was impossible Lilith was dead if her brothers were alive.

She had to be alive, she must've survived the Celestial War. My legs started numbing as my book shrunk smaller. The brothers and the human stares at it without question. The brother along the name Levi had stumbled down and held his knee on my back even though it was useless. He and the pretty boy had pulled up a tough fight. I had a few minor wounds and I couldn't even get up.

The human placed the grimoire down on the hard floor away from me she placed her hand on top of my head even though Lucifer argued upon the action. Her hand was warm and dulled my senses. My arms gave out and a white hue outlined her figure. 

My eyes focused behind her where I glimpsed at my angel...
