Ilia and I raced back to the town, the moon was high and lit up the village perfect, its beams of light bouncing off the river amplifying the light. The towns people were safely placed on one side of the river with Rusl at the front, blade drawn.
On the other side of the lake was Impa, leaning against a tree and griping her side, and Sheik, with small daggers in her hands, staring down a grotesque monster.
Ilia and I joined Rusl and the rest of the village, Bo held her daughter and Rusl gripped my arm pulling me in.
'Link you have to go help, I cannot leave this spot.' He told me. His eyes were sharp and serious. He looked unnerved and calm, however I could tell he was nervous, his family was in danger. I went to protest but he pulled a second sword out from behind his back.
'Use this sword, I was going to gift it to you tomorrow before you set out for Kokiri forest, but you need it now.' I accepted the blade and held the hilt, gripping it tightly. It felt light and well balanced in my hand, I had only held one other sword, a wooden one, once before when Rusl tried to train me. He told me, for my first lesson, I did really well, but this wasn't training. I looked over, Impa was injured and the monster was gaining on Sheik, he did need my help.
I turned to Rusl and nodded. I ran for the monster and heard the cries of the other villagers as I left their side.
Sheik was deflecting a blow from the monster as I advanced, he may have only small weapons, but he seemed to know how to use them effectively. Sheik dodged a swing of the monster's weapon and jumped backwards. We slammed shoulders as I met his side and we silently accepted a temporary partnership in this fight.
I was now face to face with the beast and was able to get a proper look at it. It was about the same height as Bo and just as big, its muscles were well defined all across its body. It wore boots that looked two sizes too small and chainmail shorts, which threw me off a little. Its torso was covered in a tattered cloth shirt and it also had large shoulder pads and gauntlets. Its face was the most horrific thing to look at. It was piggish in nature, but also kind of like a dog, with large tusks and a small helmet on top of its head, not really protecting anything. In his hands he wielded a spear with a sharp steel coloured tip.
I had only ever heard of this kind of creature, but I knew by looking at it, it was a Moblin.
I felt well under prepared for this fight, the only weapon I had defended against was another wooden sword. Sheik seemed to know what to do however, the beast growled and tried to lunge at us, Sheik pushed me to the side before I got skewered by a spear and slashed at its side as the beast continued forward. It cried out in pain, then turned around and looked at Sheik. Anger filled its eyes and it bellowed in rage. It went to step forward, aiming its next attack at Sheik, I had the idea to step around and slash at its back, but I stepped too early and the Moblin noticed what I was doing. It swung its spear around in one hand and the flat side of the tip smacked into my stomach, knocking the wind out of me and sending me onto my back. The Moblin decided to deal with me later and continued advancing on Sheik.
I tried to see what was happing, but my vision was blurred. I saw Sheik had been pushed backwards to a thicket of trees with not many directions to go next.
I tried to stand up, but pain ran up through my back making my head spin. Suddenly I found myself floating upwards, an updraft against my back, and I was standing straight.
I wasted no time and broke out into a sprint, ignoring the pain in my stomach and back, I aimed right for the monsters back. Sheik seemed helpless, and I watched the Moblin ready to plunge the spear into Sheik, and the look in his eye knowing he had no way out.
I was nearly there, I was just about to stab the Moblin in the back, but I knew I would be too late to save Sheik, however another Miracle happened.
The Moblin seemed to trip on something and he dropped his spear and just before I plunged my sword into its back, the Moblin somehow spun around and was facing me, just in time to see a sword stab straight through its stomach.
The Moblin stopped growling, its body went limp, and then puffed away in a purple mist. My sword dropped and my arm followed with it as it dragged along the ground, suddenly no longer imbedded within a monster.
I let the sword go and helped Sheik. He didn't seem wounded but was definitely in shock from having his life nearly ended. I reassured him he was okay and alive, and together we went to Impa's side. She pushed us away modestly claiming she was fine, even though we both saw the blood staining her shroud.
'I just can't explain what I just saw,' Impa said, looking around in disbelief.
'Suddenly Link was on the ground, and then on his feet, and that Moblin had somehow spun around and dropped his spear!'
'No need to thank me, just repaying my debt.' Someone had suddenly appeared as if out of nowhere behind Impa, she jumped backwards, wincing in pain and drew her sword, the tip just underneath the chin of this prankster.
'Whoa lady calm down please, I came to help,' He pleaded, holding his hands up. He looked about my age, he dressed in a purple tunic and cloak with red leg wrappings. He had a purple cap, that hung low passed the back of his head. To go along with the look, the cap was also covering up his pale purple hair, with a small tuft poking out from the top of it. He also had a red gem imbedded in the brim of the hat, which matched his red eyes.
I raced around and pushed Impa's sword away, explaining he is friendly.
'Yes lady, I'm only here because I owe Link a favour.' He explained.
'What is your name?' Impa asked, still not convinced.
'Vaati, the most handsome wind mage in all of Hyrule," he said with a graceful bow. I groaned.
'Are you a Sheikah?' Sheik asked. I only just noticed that they all did have red eyes, which must be a common Sheikah trait.
'Not that I know of sir. I tragically lost my parents at a young age, so I do not know much about them.' He explained.
'So what has been going on Link?' Vaati said so casually. I sighed, pulled him off to the side and caught him up.
