Big Plans
The next day, I woke up feeling euphoric and carefree. I turned and stared at Leo's sleeping form next to mine, the lower half of his body covered by the sheets. His mouth was slightly parted, and his hair was all over the place.
As usual, he barely stirred. I looked down at the small sparkling blue diamond on my ring finger and I felt another wave of happiness all over again. I couldn't believe that I was getting married after centuries of loneliness. Now the only thing flashing through my head was telling my family.
I was so lost in thought that I didn't realize when Leo moved. Suddenly his arm was over me and his head lay on my chest. I felt my heartbeat spoke and I had no doubt that he could hear it. He turned his head and placed a soft kiss on my chest and I felt his lips curl into a smile.
"Good morning sunshine," he said in his raspy morning voice.
"It is a grand morning," I corrected him. He laughed and brought his face up to look at me. He leaned his forehead against mine and I smiled.
"Hurry up and get dressed so we can tell your family the big news. I know you're just dying to," he whispered.
"Yes I am, and you mean our family. Whether you want them or not, they're yours now too," I replied, correcting him once again.
"You are absolutely right. That still means hurry up though," he said. I rolled my eyes and squirmed out from under him to walk to the bathroom. I took a quick shower, brushed my teeth and came out to get dressed only to see that Leo was asleep again. I huffed and walked over to the bed, grabbing a pillow and smacking him upside the head with it.
He grunted and rolled over to look up at me through bleary eyes. He groaned and then rolled back over but i smacked him with the pillow again.
"You only told me to go so you could sleep more and now I'll have to wait on you and if you don't hurry, I'll tell them without you!"
"Alright, alright. I'm getting up. You're so bossy," he said. He stood up and my eyes quickly flashed down but then hurried back up to see him smirking.
"If you wanted to see all you had to do was ask baby," he said with a wink. I rolled my eyes when I felt my cheeks heat up and threw the pillow at him as he walked to the bathroom.
"You're so annoying," I called after him as he shut the door with a laugh. I smiled to myself and walked over to the closet. I pulled on a pair of skinny jeans and a crop top along with a pair of high top sneakers. I brushed my hair and left it down to air dry.
A few minutes later, he walked back out and got dressed, but not before he shook his head like a wet dog and got water all over my face, which earned him a smack in the arm.
We joined our hands together and walked downstairs. Tori, Nick, Rose, and Evan were already there and Jaquez was walking in behind us. Tori seemed unusually happy this morning as she fluttered around the kitchen, grabbing orange juice and toast.
I sat down at the table with everyone else and Leo was looking at me expectantly, his pierced eyebrow raised. I didn't know how to start this, honestly. I wasn't sure how to say it. I was so excited to tell them but now that I was actually down here, I wasn't sure.
"Nick and I are getting married," came a voice across the table. My head snapped up to look at Tori who had happily and eagerly blurted the announcement. My eyes widened in surprise. Huh. What a coincidence.
"So are we," I said finally, holding up my hand to show them all the ring. Tori squealed with delight and practically jumped over the table to attack me. I laughed at her enthusiasm and realized how carefree and happy she's been since coming back home as a vampire.
"Yay! We can have a joint wedding and everything and go dress shopping together and have a huge cake and invite all our friends and everything and Rose can help plan the wedding."
She went on and on about everything that we could do for our wedding and I didn't say anything. I just kept sharing glances and smiles with Leo while Nick watched in amusement as Tori babbled on.
After a while, Tori and Nick left and now Leo and I were on our way to his father's house. I didn't know what I was going to say or if he even wanted to see me. I haven't heard Leo utter a word about his dad since I came back. The only time he's talked about Melanie was when he was telling me that she was okay and looking after their dad, although his wound had already healed.
He said that he wanted to deliver the news in person although I think he was kind of nervous about how his father would take it. He put the car in park when we arrived and I got out with him. I wasn't sure what was going to happen once we walked in, whether he would still hate me or be ashamed of Leo, but I felt terrible about the whole thing because it would be my fault if he was mad at Leo for being with me.
He knocked on the door and reached down to tangle our fingers together while giving me a small, reassuring smile but it was strained. The door opened and Alive appeared on the other side. Honestly I had forgotten about Alice but from what Leo told me, she just got back from a business trip or something.
She smiled widely, the dark circles under her eyes were obvious. It had been a while since I had seen Alice and I forgot how tiny she was. Just like Melanie. Talking with Leo, I learned that she is his mother's sister. Now she takes care of Mel and Phillip when she's not out on business trips around the US.
"Gemini, what a nice surprise. And Leo too," she greeted cheerfully.
"Hey Alice," Leo said, leaning down to give her a quick hug. She smiled up at him and then she turned to look at me and Leo in turn.
"There's something different about you two…" she began. I smiled at her and wondered if she'd been filled in on the news between Leo and I. I guess not.
"Uh, yeah. Me and Gemini are together now. As in, marked and mated. And we're getting married so we came to tell Melanie and Dad in person," Leo informed her.
Her eyes grew wide and then a huge smile appeared on her face as she looked down at our intertwined hands for the first time. She suddenly threw herself at me and Leo and he laughed while we both hugged her back.
She was excited and it was nice to see someone care so much about it. She also insisted on helping to plan the wedding and I told her that I could squeeze her in with Rosaline for the help committee.
Finally, Leo and I went to go face the real obstacle. His father. Leo lightly tapped on the door and it was quiet for a moment before a deep voice called for us to come in.
"Hey Dad. Gemini and I came to bring good news for once," Leo said. He almost sounded nervous and I knew that he was but he didn't always show it outwardly like this and I realized that his father's opinion matter to him.
His father, all healthy and strong now, stood up from his office chair and walked over to stand in front of us.
"I heard it all from the living room, son," Phillip said. I found myself holding my breath and the man looked down at me. I was surprised to see a small smile grace his lips.
"I just want to say congratulations, and thank you, Gemini, for trying to help me with that vampire. Melanie told me everything and I'm truly grateful. I'm also sorry that I misjudged in the beginning, and I believe that we should start over," he said.
Leo and I exchanged disbelieving looks. Neither of us were expecting that reaction but I was happy for it none the less. I looked back at Phillip and smiled.
"Of course," was all that I could think to say. He dipped his head and shook hands with Leo but what surprised me even more was that he hugged me. I froze at first but I awkwardly hugged him back.
"Welcome to the family," he whispered in my ear. I closed my eyes, finally feeling accepted in Leo's family and it was as if a huge weight was lifted from my shoulders. This was the way it should be.
