Nick POV:

My vision slowly started to come back, bright light and a faded baby blue dash board drifting in and out into nothingness. I turned my head to the side causing a very sore feeling as if I had pulled muscle in my neck.

When I finally got my head turned a full sixty degrees I was looking straight at the side of a yellow shirt that I remembered seeing on that hick that I saw before blacking out.

He seemed to be extremely worried and frightened of something. I sat up awkwardly bumping into the side of him. He quickly looks over and his panic meter seemed to go down a notch.

"Oh uh shoot...", "U'ma my name's Ellis... but no time fer in'erductions we gotta go now!" He exclaims rather nervously and points up the road. "Holy shit!" I shout looking at a massive buff zombie with its tongue hanging out coming straight towards us.

It kinda ran like a gorilla, relying mostly on its fist to move itself over the concrete jungle that is this corpse ridden city. It effortlessly picked up a big chunk of of concrete, sending it barreling straight towards the truck.

The hick a.k.a. "Ellis" slammed his foot onto the gas pas pedal sending us zooming straight past the big ass zombie bastard. He slowed down a bit once the zombie was no longer in sight. My head still hurt like'a bitch but if I could deal with being shot in the chest than I could suffer a bump on my head.

"Where the hell are ya takin' me?" I asked the redneck impatiently. "I'm drivin' us both to the evac cen'er up'a head." He replied kindly looking over at me and grinning.

"Ok, whatever..." I say swiftly, adjusting my gaze to the hell we called the Earth through the window trying to avoid anymore conversation with this imbreed. I've never been the person who liked to talk much unless it was about me or involved me or money.

I know I sound like a total prick bit hey, that's the way I was brought up. I always lived by two things 'Don't trust anybody' and 'Always look out for number one'.

It's brought this far in life and I probably was never gonna change but... who know right? "Oh and thanks, for ya know... uh, saving me back there..." I thanked the redneck reluctantly. "No problem", he replied with a genuine smile, "I couldn't just drive by 'n' jus' watch'a poss'bly die or get hurt, I ain't that kinda person."

---------------------O-o--------------------

Finally we came up upon a pretty decent hotel and stepped inside. There was no one anywhere at least that I could see.

"Hmmm... that's strange, but everybody probably died or are all on the roof." I thought to myself but shrugged it off and continued following Ellis who was walking up some stairs that had arrows going up them.

After about 19 flights in my lungs felt like furnaces and my legs like jello. I was breathing and panting heavily. When I was on the 29 flight I was relieved to see that we only had one more left. I picked the pace straight pass Ellis and opened the rooftop door.

When those doors burst open I saw a fat black man in about his forty's that had a school coaches shirt on and khakis. He was bent over a beautiful black woman with her arms wrapped around her knees sobbing.

They both looked up stunned and I instantly felt my cold stone heart warm up a bit to the woman's smile she gave us when she saw that we weren't some zombie bastards. But like all good things in this world, it didn't last long.

My mind went back to reality and I asked frustrated, "Where the hell are'tha damn helicopters?!?"
