Ok, the picture doesn't really fit, but I like too much his expression! (And then there's ink too!)
The second part begins!
Saito P.O.V.:
When I opened my eyes it was sunset. The orange light of the sun made the roof of the building particularly bright. Under the trees where I was instead, the darkness was already gaining strength. It had to be dinner time.
I had something between my lips. I grabbed the mysterious object 'A stem?' I asked myself looking at it. I knew there were those who held such plants between their teeth while taking naps but it wasn't my habit. I threw the stem away and stretched a bit. 'Today it's not my turn to cook, so it's not a big deal if I woke up now ...' I thought still rather relaxed but suddenly I remembered that today, before dinner, there would be a summit with Kondo and the others. I opened my eyes wide when I realized I was extremely late. I grabbed my daisho and sprang to my feet. I started running, or at least I tried.
In fact, at the first stride I found myself lying face down.
I sat up in confusion. There was nothing that could make me stumble. So, why had I fallen? 'What...? ' in the point where I had fallen there were many white flowers, the same flowers of the bushes around me. I let go of that oddity and glanced at my feet, undoubtedly the problem were my sandals. I shook my head frowning when I noticed that they were inverted and tied together. "What a childish joke..." I muttered putting them correctly. My hands moved quickly and precisely lacing the sandals again. The shadows on my hands had strange shapes but I didn't have time for that either. Unfortunately, it seemed that someone had a lot of fun while I was sleeping because when I raised my head my scarf fell on my eyes. I took it off my head with an impatient snort, quickly put it around my neck and I was finally able to start running.
Hijikata P.O.V.:
'Where did Saito go? ' I was starting to worry, it wasn't like him. 'I could expect it from Heisuke or Souji, even from Shimpachi, but not from him. ' he never arrived late, let alone miss a whole summit.
'Yet, the meeting is almost over and not even the shadow of him. ' I glanced over the onlookers while Kondo spoke of the Choshu clan. Everyone was present, except for Saito of course. Nevertheless, nobody seemed to give much weight to it. My gaze fixed on Souji and Heisuke. 'Those two don't tell me right...' I thought, narrowing my eyes. Ever since they reached the summit, they have done nothing but look at each other accomplices. 'What were they doing before? ' at that point, the question arose spontaneously. It didn't take a genius to understand that they were hiding something. Was Saito also involved?
"Toshi?" Kondo's voice snatched me from my thoughts. I looked at him; he was staring at me with an expression that bordered on the worried. "Yes?" I replied, perfectly aware that everyone's attention was now focused on me. "It's all right? You froze at some point. You had such a frown..." he asked tilting his head. "Yes," I said, returning my gaze to the rest of those present. "Sorry, I was thinking." I explained and Souji grinned, "The inspiration for another wonderful haiku?" he asked slyly, "Souji..." I hissed, glaring at him. He merely shrugged his shoulders brazenly while the rest of those present allowed themselves a little laugh.
"Okay, okay, guys, that's enough." Kondo intervened continuing to smile "I remind you that we are here for a serious reason. It's okay to laugh every now and then but let's not get too distracted." and started talking as before.
Two minutes and I was already lost in my thoughts, again. My mind kept going back to when I met Souji and Heisuke this afternoon. Instinct told me that there was something I should've paid attention to. Something I had missed...
