Stella's POV
In school the next day, I was walking along the hallway when I saw Luke rushing down the hall over to me.
"Luke? Is something wrong?" I said as he grabbed my shoulders, checking my body for any injuries.
"My tattoo. My tattoo stung and it hurt really bad, like it was burning. I had to to to the bathroom and run cool water on it." He said while shaking furiously.
Burning on your tattoo meant one thing, and one thing only. It meant that something was being added to your tattoo. This only happens when you get married to your soulmate, where you get a full square with a heart in the middle, or when your soulmate dies, where your puzzle piece is filled in with black. I don't see Luke married, and he's obviously freaking out right now.
It makes me feel better to know that Luke thought of me first when he found out his other half was dead, but it still saddens me that we aren't soulmates.
He lifted his arm up and pulled his jacket sleeve down. He revealed his tattoo to me with a big frown on his face. His tattoo was black, and he knew right then and there that I was not his soulmate.
Most people would have left immediately and just tried to move on, as they knew that they would be better off that way. They would live a perfect life with good luck and peace if they were with their soulmates.
He hugged me instead and I expected him to go after that, but he stayed. He didn't leave me.
"Come on, let's get to lunch." He took my hand in his and we walked over to the cafetorium.
We ate our lunches and went to our literature class that I had with Calum.
"Cal, are you happy with Mel now?" I whispered softly, hoping that the teacher won't hear us.
"Yeah, I've actually asked her to be my girlfriend already." He whispered back with a smirk.
"Mr. Hood, please focus on your paper." The old teacher said and jabbed her wrinkly finger onto Cal's test paper.
After class, we were both at the hallway, about to part ways.
"Luke showed me his tattoo this morning." I blurted out, since I already made sure that he'd gotten over me.
"And?" He urged me to continue. He held me in a hug, knowing that me and Luke weren't soulmates.
"It's black, Cal. He knows I'm not his soulmate, and his soulmate is dead." I said and buried my head deeper into his chest.
"It seems like he doesn't want to leave me though, like he still wants to try. I hope he stays with me." I added and pulled away from the hug.
Calum gave me advice. He told me to wait and see how Luke would feel.
We went our separate ways to our next classes.
I already know how I feel. I know Luke's not my soulmate, but I'm willing to go through hardships, fights, and an eternity of bad luck.
I hope he does too.
