"Morning everyone, the name's Hiroko Mi. I hope we all get along this school year." I confidently said with a wide grin on my face before sitting back down.
The guy assigned to sit next to me stood up and started introducing himself as well. Introduction after introduction happened, I started getting bored. I stopped playing with my mechanical pen when the last person stood up.
"I-I'm Kiyoshi Tatsuo." His face flushed under everyone's gazes. "Please t-take care of me." He bowed and immediately sat with his head down. I could see the red tint on the tips of his ears.
I leaned on the palm of my hand, still looking at Tatsuo. He eventually looked up at me. I waved with a grin. He smiled back with a small wave of his own. I then turned my attention back to the teacher in front.

I held the crocheted bunny like it was made of glass. It wasn't that large in size but I could tell he did his best in making it. Each stitch was well-thought off and intentional. The pattern was simple yet intricate enough to not make it appear bland. The color scheme for me was also very pleasing to the eyes; light and harmonious. The maker of said bunny looked expectantly at me.
"This is amazing, Tatsuo-kun!" I grinned. "You never fail to impress me with your knitting skills."
"Thanks, Mi-chan." He blushed a bit, still maintaining a small smile. "I still think it could use some improvements." He humbly added while avoiding my gaze.
"Well..." Tatsuo looked at me. "I think so too."
I grabbed his sewing kit and rummaged around its contents. When I found what I was looking for, I took the bunny from his hands again. He looked questioningly at my actions. I turned my back on him and started doctoring the rabbit.
"Tadaa~" I showed off the bunny. On its neck was a string secured around, meant to look like a collar.
He just looked at me with confused eyes.
I pointed at his school bag. Still at a loss, he carefully laid the bag in my lap. I said my thanks and tied the extended string on the slider of the zipper.
"See? Now you have your very own homemade keychain! Currently found in stores near you for only JP¥ 80!" My skit ended with a dramatic pose and a wink.
He let out a small laugh. His laugh made me chuckle in response. I set his bag back on the ground as I scoot closer. I leaned my head on his shoulder with my eyes closed.
I felt a cold breeze pass by us. I pressed my body closer to his.
"Ne~ Tatsuo-kun~" I mumbled. He hummed in response, obviously used to my behavior already.
"You should interact with the others more..." He didn't respond. "I get that it's still the first day of school but you should start getting used to the idea of talking to other people."
He remained quiet. I assumed he was deep in thought. Unknowingly, my thoughts were also drifting to memories of the past.

Children were running around the playground in the park. Parents were off to the side benches, talking amongst themselves. There were squeals, giggles, and incoherent chatter in the background.
Mixed along with the group of adults was a petite child. She sat on the lap of a woman who looked to be her mother. The child's head was bowed down, giving off a shy appearance. Every now and then her small hands would pull down the black beanie on her head, making sure it was secure and didn't fall off.
