Phoenix picked up the phone abruptly, "hello?"
Hearing a familiar, upbeat voice on the other end of the line greeting her with the phrase, "hello Irish girl," her face lit up and her eyes twinkled, "Christian! Hey."
It was so nice for her to hear from someone of a similar age, who she actually happened to be fond of.
"Are you hibernating or something? Cause I haven't seen or heard from you since that day at the beach... Did we scare you?"
"No way! I just got a bit creeped out when I went to sleep that night. Let's just say, I didn't sleep! And, I'm grounded at the moment. That's why I haven't even stepped out of the front door."
"Oh, that sucks. Your mom and dad must be as strict as Sylvia's."
Phoenix sighed, "yeah, it must run through the family."
They both chuckled. Then, Phoenix heard a door being unlocked and the sound of footsteps approaching the bedroom.
Christian lowered his voice speaking in a more serious tone, "I was wondering... do you wanna go to a party with me tomor..."
Phoenix was interrupted by Sylvia who was wearing a turban towel over her head and a puss on her face, pointing at the phone, "give it."
Phoenix was stunned at her cousin's double personality. What was her problem?
"One sec," Phoenix mouthed and indicated to her by holding up her index finger.
Raising her voice in irritation, Phoenix explained to Christian the situation, "sorry, but I have to pass you onto the lovely Sylvia who's acting like a proper dry sh*te today."
Sylvia stared at her in utter disgust as Phoenix shoved the large phone into her hands, storming out of the room.
She left Sylvia alone as she was so annoyed with her that she lost all interest in what she was bound to say to Christian.

Sylvia began the discussion impolitely, throwing the few manners she had out the window, "why were you talking to her, Christian?"
Startled and overwhelmed by her harshness he told her that, "she picked up the phone, that's why! Are you not gonna ask why I called?"
She dodged his question completely, "don't think for a second that I didn't notice that you spent the entire day with Phoenix on Saturday. I'm not stupid."
Still feeling highly discombobulated he uttered, "when did I call you stupid?"
"Have you ever heard of indirects? God Christian! What were you doing with her that was so interesting anyways? She's not even fun to hang with."
Hiding any subjects regarding his true, supernatural identity, he justified himself, "nothing, just being her tour guide for the day that's it and, well I think she's pretty awesome." He took a brief moment to exhale and forget about the tension, "look, are you going to the party tomorrow?
This change of subject saved Christian by the bell as it grasped Sylvia's attention and changed her mood completely.
She blurted out dynamically, "Briana's 18th birthday?"
"Yeah."
Then, her heart sunk, almost all hope lost, "no, I wish. I wasn't invited. I think I'll just sneak in though."
"Not unless you wanna risk your life. Invites only, cause there's gonna be a big daddy of a bouncer guarding the entrance."
She huffed and puffed hearing Christian's remark, like the wolf in the children's fairytale 'Three little pigs,' "f*ck sake! What am I going to do now?"
