Chapter One {Hospitalised}
Chapter One:
I awoke to the sound of a monotone, irritating beeping. My eyes opened slowly, only to be hit by a bright, illuminating light, causing my eyes to close in retaliation. I waited a few seconds, breathing deep and finally opened my eyes; this time, more cautious than before, having learned the lesson a hard way. I turned my pounding head toward the beeping noise. An older-looking pulse oximeter was attached to my limp finger, or rather it had been. I could only guess that was the reason for the beeping.
A small IV was attached to my other hand, while an obnoxious breathing tube was up my nose. My eyes widened as I finally took in my surroundings; I was no longer in my house... I was no longer in my room. I glanced around the room frantically, confused as to why I was there to begin with. The room itself was pretty small, and it smelled of alcoholic swipes, technical equipment, and sickness. The walls were a shade of baby blue, cob-webs hung in the corner. A small, older TV sat against the wall, and a few chairs were surrounding my bed.
My reaction was to sit up and get out of there, but the only thing my body did when I sat up was fall back down. I was unable to stand, unable to remember the events from yesterday... I was beyond a nervous wreck at this point. The room began to spin in front of me, while my chest rose and fell rapidly. It wasn't until that moment that I realized that I was in pain; more than that, agony. The pain radiated from my toes, all the way up to my head. Tears formed in my eyes, and I realized that my face was a little swollen.
I opened my mouth to call out for help, but barely a whisper escaped my dry, chapped lips. I hadn't noticed a male in the corner of the room, watching me, until he walked over and knelt beside me.
His warm hand engulfed mine in an instant, and I was slow to react. My face followed the man's hand, all the way up his arm toward his familiar face. The man leaned forward and kissed my cheek softly, making me turn to stone.
He leaned closer yet and whispered, "Hello love, glad to see you're awake."
He pulled away from me, but still had his hand on mine. I stared at him quizzically, and pulled my hand out from his. I remembered who he was, then. I squinted my eyes and bit my lip; this can't be happening.
"Preston..." I let out a long sigh, "You are not my love, and never were. Please, get out." Although I held a strong face, I was scared to death.
Preston had been my long term boyfriend. I'd tried ending the relationship with him several times now, but he won't take no for an answer.
"Sorry, no can do." He stared down at me with dominant eyes, and held my gaze.
I made a disgusted noise, and reached for the bell to ring the nurse. Preston snatched up the remote, and smiled slyly. I gulped nervously.
Preston smirked, "I'm going to get them, don't worry. But just remember, I haven't forgotten our little... arrangement that we sorted out."
I gasped, "What arrangement? I told you no, Preston!"
He chuckled lightly, and bent down to my level. I scooted away from him in pure hatred.
"I would say I'm sorry, but you left me with no choice." He shrugged nonchalant, as if he was talking about the weather, "I'm only sorry that it has to be done this way."
I searched his eyes for some form of humanity left in him, and found absolutely nothing in those cold, black eyes. Tears escaped from my eyes once again, and anger flashed through me a moment later. How dare he!
I lifted my hand to slap the soulless bastard, but he caught it, as he usually does.
"Samantha love, I did you a favor!" he spat. "You'll thank me in the end."
