The minute the scream quieted down, the girl glanced out from the spot, they'd hidden. The hallway was empty, nothing in the darkness.

The Seer was not what Kali had expected. Though she was skinny, and it was easy to see, she had been held captive for a while, she held herself with a certain energy in her posture, that Kali had not seen before. Kali was certain, that Samantha Jones and she would get out of the damned Smythe Mansion unnoticed. Of course, the Messenger had seen them, but she wasn't really bothered about that. Sam had told Kali, that Penelope Smythe was to be trusted. So, Kali trusted that the girl wouldn't tell anyone, she'd seen them run past the room. Besides, she probably wouldn't think about it.

"We should leave," Sam said. Kali sat up from the awkward position, she'd been hiding in and nodded.

"Let's go," she said, standing up. Sam followed her.

The air was fresh. The note in her hand showed Kali, that the small house, they were in front of, should be the right one. Finding the house in this part of Belgium had been hard, especially since Neither Kali nor Sam knew Dutch. If they could have contacted the Belgian lord without going to Belgium, it would have been an advantage. But Kali knew that she should be grateful they even had a name and address.

The pair was left to the cold wind a minute longer before the door opened and revealed the face of an older man. He frowned when he saw the pair. Kali could barely blame him. Coming from New York to Belgium had been difficult, still, she was surprised it had only taken a small Month, seeing as they'd had to hide from the Hybrid every step of the way.

The guy in the door said something I Dutch, which Kali presumed meant 'What do you want?' rather than 'Get off my lawn." Though to be fair, the house didn't have a lawn, so the odds of it being the first one was probably better. At least, she hoped the man was just curious about the two girls at his front door and wasn't just cursing at the,

"Lord Smythe?" Sam asked. "We need your help."

The old man straightened his back slightly, "Who are you?"

Kali sighed. "This is Samantha Jones. My name is Kali. Though you may know me as Karina Smythe."

The guy's eyes widened slightly as he opened the door further up.  "You better come in."

They had stayed at Lord Smythe's house a week when their plan started to fail. The boy had shown up unexpected. It had been rather difficult to cover up that Sam and Kali were plotting with Lord Smythe, so they had come clear, even if Kali had hated the idea. The boy had seemed to think about it, but before he could answer anything a loud bang had sounded throughout the house.

Someone was trying to knock the front door down. A smell of wood filled the house. Lord Smythe stood up. He said something in Dutch to the boy, before turning to Kali and Sam.

"Get out of here!" he said. Kali caught Sam's glance, as goosebumps spread down her back.

"It's not safe!" Sam said, her voice stern. The boy took Kali's arm, pulling her along. Kali looked at Lord Smythe, who just shook his head. Sam's eyes went wide as the boy pulled Kali with her. She reached out towards Kali, grabbing her other arm.

"The Bringer is more important than an old man. My grandson will help you." Lord Smythe smiled at the girls. Kali shook her head. Sam let go of Kali and pulled out a knife from her boot. The boy and Kali disappeared out of the window. Lord Smythe shook his head at her, though a sad smile crept onto his face.

"Go Sam. I appreciate your help. But the Hybrid is taking control of the Dark World. Kali may be our only hope. I hired you once to look after Penelope. Now I'm begging you to keep Kali safe." His voice was sad, but the order in it was hard to miss.

Sam sent the Lord one last glance, then nodded, following the boy and Kali.

"Thank you, Lord Smythe," Kali said glancing through the window to capture the old man's glance one last time. He smiled at her, then he turned his back, as someone – Sam by the feeling of the small, soft hand in Kali's – pulled her after them.

A bang sounded, and Kali knew, that whoever was attacking the house had broken down the door. They stopped quickly, glancing back at the house where silhouettes hovered in the windows.  A scream echoed through the cold night air, and Kali knew, she would never be able to repay Lord Smythe for his kindness. A tear fell on the boy's face. Sam's fists tightened.

"We can't help now," San said capturing Kali's glances. "We gotta run."

Kali nodded her insides turning as she felt the life leave the first man in her family to ever show her kindness.
