let's start from the beginning: the couple didn't initially start as friends but as acquaintances. the two attended the same school at seoul school of performing arts and were placed in the same class over the four years they were in high school and yet, they never spoke to one another.

it was until jinghua debuted in seventeen that they spoke to one another. as a congratulatory gift for her debut in twenty-fifteen, jaehyun purchased her's and their mutual friend, saemin's snacks during break. following this, jinghua and the two's mutual friend, dabin came together to create jaehyun a congratulatory gift basket for his debut in twenty-sixteen ❪ chapter: how we met. ❫

if you haven't noticed, the two shared many mutual friends and even sometimes hung out with the same friend group however never extended their relationship from being acquaintances.

was it till mid twenty-sixteen were the two's relationship began developing from acquaintances to friends. at a get together with some old high school friends, jaehyun and jinghua both attended in hopes of catching up with some old pals and began getting to know one another.

as the year progressed, the pair began getting closer and at every friend get-together, the couple was always seen to be more affectionate than before - so much to the point where their close friends believed the two began dating in secret.

throughout the time the two spent getting to know each other, jaehyun began developing feelings for the female after meeting her at school. calling her his high school sweetheart despite not dating in high school. he didn't try to confess since he knew she would be on a dating ban and would-be business with her idol career to be dating, and that was the same for him when he debuted.

jinghua was also attracted to jaehyun during her high school years. he was popular among the students and she agreed to his handsome looks that had girls in their classes swooning over him. after reconnecting with him at the get-together, she began developing stronger feelings towards him and worried about damaging her career if she were to be found out to be dating before her dating ban expired.

in twenty-seventeen, jaehyun couldn't handle the suffocating feeling of not confessing and so he confessed to jinghua on new years day of that year. the female was stunned and confessed as well however the two didn't immediately start dating because their confessing was an 'in the moment' time.

on january tenth, twenty-seventeen, jaehyun and jinghua officially became boyfriend and girlfriend, informing their members and managers of the relationship. because the pair were still somewhat rookie groups at the time they began dating, the couple decided to keep things private and under-wraps which they maintained well till october of that year.

in october of twenty-seventeen, jinghua was involved in a dating scandal with fellow seventeen member, dokyeom when they were caught hanging out late at night. pledis entertainment had to come out with a statement denying the rumours between the two and announced jinghua to have a boyfriend, hiding jaehyun's identity.

the two's relationship continued to be private with little publicity from jinghua, till twenty-twenty when the couple officially revealed their dating news to the entire world. the announcement was shocking, being one of the most unexpected couple pairing to be announced since kang daniel and twice jihyo's dating announcement. it shocked fans, even more, when they came to find out the couple had been dating for three years before announcing the relationship. the couple did not receive as much backlash as they thought and were happy to know their fans supported them.

they are each other's first loves, first kiss and practically, first everything within a relationship. they have shared their strong desire of being together for a long time and even talked about marrying one another and starting a family someday in the future.
