In his 1st year of high school, Haru (16) had joined the track and field club. At this point, he finds running just plain and boring. He had always won most of his competitions, getting praises over and over again just meant nothing more than normal words now.

"Wow, you're so good at running!"
"Aren't you just a prodigy lol"
"Take it easy on me, man!"
"You could join the nationals already!"

Again and again. How many times has these words been told to him? How many times had he put on a fake smile?

"Thank you," A fake smile lined on his face again.

If he lost, what did he get?

Disappointment. So it was fine if they lost, but not me? Just because I've won more, did it mean I've lost the right to lose? If it's going to be like that, then I'll stop listening to you. For all I care, you're nothing but losers who can only wish to get more achievements than me.

High school's track and field club. It'd just be the same. If it's going to be that way, I'll just stop attending practice.

"It won't matter to them as long as I win anyways."

"Captain, there's one who's been skipping all the practices,"
"I'll talk to him about it, don't worry,"

Aki (18) approaches Haru with a calm demeanor. Of course, Haru realizes he's about to face a senior.

"I'm Ishikawa Aki, a senior and the captain of the track a field club which you probably didn't know since you've been skipping all the practices," he said with a smile on his face and hand out for Haru to shake.

Haru eyed his hand, then back to his face. There's no way he was going to let a mere captain boss him around. "Is there something you need?" He glared.

Aki stared at his expression, observing and understanding. A brat indeed. "If it's about something I need then yes, it's that you start attending the practices," his smile faded. There's no use faking a smile to someone who's used to faking it.

"Fuck off," Haru scoffed and turned away. Aki wasn't bewildered by his kindness. Of course, it was expected of a brat to not be easily lured in.

Haru noticed that this so-called-captain wasn't planning on leaving so he turned back to him. "I'm going to win all the competitions anyways, so there's no reason for me to practice, is there?" He glared again. This ought to get him away. It's all about winning in this world anyways.

"Then, I bet you can't win against me in a match," a slight smirk formed on his face.

Can't win? Haru's eyes widened. Those words had caught him off guard. But soon enough his expression turned smug. This is going to be fun. "Let's go at it," Haru stood up when the bell rang. Break was over. "After school, I can't wait to see you cry and beg for me to attend your stupid practices," he laughed as he bumped Aki's shoulder hardly and walked away.

After school, they were both in their PE clothes. The air was cool and the wind sang a soft melodic song. It did not fit the menacing mood between them at all. It was silent, but everyone knew that they were both holding knives at each other's throats. Still, junior or not, Aki was not going to hold back. After all, the bet was on.

Ready, get set, GO!

Both of them started running. Haru,  being ahead of the captain just made him disappointed. What? All those words and he was just like everyone else.

Then, he sees something coming up at the edge of his eye. Aki had zoomed passed him. Haru's eye twitched. "Seems like I've underestimated you," he mumbled. "But I'm still better," he thought as he picked up the pace.

Both of them were side to side now. Soft panting and the sounds of their hearts pounding hardly was ringing in their ears. It was a battle of two kings. One was at his neck and the other was at his heart. There was no escaping.

But it seemed like Aki wasn't showing his all. His speed increased which left Haru in shock. Haru was unable to go quicker, his legs were getting tired and slower. What kind of fuel was the mere captain running on?

Alas, Aki won the match. Haru came a few seconds after him. Panting hard, he dropped to the ground. They were both sweating. It was certainly a real battle.

"What does he have that I don't? I'm definitely talented, but what about him?"

•••

Aki held out his hand to Haru who was sitting on the ground, "so I guess that means you've got to come to all the practices we're going to have, yes?"

"Shut up!" Frustrated, Haru smacked his hand away and stood up by himself as he left.

The other club members chattered to themselves as he left.

"I doubt he'll come,"
"Your efforts were wasted, captain"
"He's just a first year, who does he think he is?"

"It'll be fine," confident in his answer, Aki smiled at the members which had silenced them all.

Author's note

This is just the beginning of it all, but I hope you liked it. I'm not really used to writing here, but I had fun. :)

Also, I really like Aki and can't wait to invest on his backstory more in the future chapters.

P.S. Who do you think would be the uke/bottom? :O Fufufu~ I have a feeling I know what most of you will say. :)
