I shouldn't be here, Chihye thought.
She was standing in the hallway of the second floor in front of Jimin's bedroom door, wearing one of Yeonjun's formal white shirts as a nightgown and hugging her pillow to her small frame. It was now nearing 6AM, but Chihye still hadn't been able to fall asleep.
Since Jimin had left her in the kitchen by herself, she had cleared their mugs away and ventured upstairs into her room, intending to go to bed and forget the events that happened that day even if it was only for a few hours before she woke up to reality again. But no matter how much she tossed and turned, Chihye just couldn't fall asleep. The only result of her tossing was the knotting of her long brown hair.
Chihye didn't know why she had thought that coming to Jimin at a time like this would help her, but nonetheless there she was, standing outside his room and wondering whether it would be safe to knock or whether she should just go back to her room.
She knew that Jimin was awake. From the gap between the bottom of the door and the floor, light flooded out onto the hallway floor. In addition, from behind the door came the rustling of sheets and the occasional tapping of fingers on a computer keyboard.
I shouldn't disturb him, Chihye thought, taking a step away from the door. He's going to be annoyed at me if I bother him at this time. He's working, and I'll just be a nuisance.
With a sigh, Chihye turned and took a few steps away from Jimin's room, but then she stopped. She turned back and stared at the door for a moment.
If I just sit here, I won't be bothering him ... right? She wondered. He won't even know I'm here ... surely that wouldn't be a problem ...
Making up her mind, Chihye walked back to the door and turned around, quietly sitting down on the floor and leaning her back against the door. She placed her pillow on her lap and laid her hands on top of it, leaning her head back and resting it against the door as quietly as she could although it still made a quiet 'thump' sound. Closing her eyes, she let out a content sigh, listening to the soft tapping of Jimin's fingers on his computer keyboard beyond the door.
It didn't continue for long, though. The tapping stopped shortly after Chihye settled down and rustling replaced it, but Chihye paid no attention to it. She frowned lightly when she heard footsteps approaching the door, but she only understood what was happening when she fell backwards and opened her eyes. She blinked and looked up, making eye contact with her stone-face husband who was holding the door open with one hand, his other hand hidden in his pocket.
"Explain yourself," Jimin instructed, staring down his nose at her.
Chihye snapped out of her trance and scrambled up to her feet, hugging her pillow to her body for comfort. She always felt more vulnerable and timid during the night-time, and it didn't help that Jimin had adopted his intimidating persona again after having softened up over a cup of coffee. Her gaze moved away from his eyes to stare at his feet instead, not being able to maintain eye contact.
Purple striped socks, She noticed. Cute.
"Speak," Jimin instructed, having grown bored of her silence.
"I, um ... I can't sleep," Chihye mumbled in response. Her grip on her pillow tightened and she lowered her head down further. "I'm not used to sleeping alone. I didn't mean to disturb you. I just ... thought I would be able to sleep here."
"Outside my door?" Jimin questioned, raising an eyebrow. "On the floor, out in the hallway?"
Chihye didn't give a verbal reply. Only nodded.
