We were about five minutes away from the hospital at this point. It was pretty windy outside so the helicopter was a bit rocky. I felt a sharp pain in my chest.

"She's crashing Brad, how much longer. " the paramedic asked

"We're here." The pilot yelled

As the doors opened I was suprised at the view. All I could see were Doctors and what seemed to be nurses.

"Stats Mike." The doctor asked

"17 year old Laura King with severe lacerations around her broken leg, massive hemorrhaging in her brain. She has 3 broken ribs and a punctured lung. She is in really bad shape Larissa." He said

"Were there any other passengers?" The doctor asked

"Yes there was a boy about the same age, I think he was her boyfriend." He said

"Well where is he." She asked looking confused

"He died at the scene." He said looking down at his feet

"Ok Debbie book me an OR...Now." she yelled at the nurse.

"Hi Laura my name is Larissa." She said while flashing a light in my eyes checking my pupils. It was almost blinding i just wanted her to stop.

"Her pupils are dilated. " she shouted.

As we reached the entrance to the hospital the warm hospital air engulfed me. As they rushed me down the hallway the lights on the ceiling were almost hypnotic, making me a bit dizzy. I was so tired now, so I started to close my eyes.

"Hey Laura I know your tired sweetheart but I need you to stay with me ok." The doctor said flashing that damn light in my eyes again. We had finally reached the OR.

"On my count ok." She said while everyone grabbed a side of the blanket.

"One... two...three." she yelled. As they lifted me onto the operating table. The anesthesiologist put a mask over my face and within 5 seconds I was out cold. Seven hours later I woke up in the ICU to find my mom and my dad sitting on either side of me holding my hands. I had the worst pounding in my head. Hopefully they would be giving me something for that. I had a tube running down my throat and all sorts of wires attached to my chest. I was in a coma one I hoped to wake up from.

I knew that I wouldnt be waking up anytime soon, so I decided to go for a walk. Before walking out of the double doors I took one more glance at myself. Then I was off. As I reached the waiting room I was astonished by the few. Almost everyone I have known since about kindergarten was there. As I scanned the crowd looking for my best friend Marie, I finally got her in my view. She looked terrible there were bags under her eyes and her makeup was smudged everywhere, probably from all the crying.

"Mom what is she doesnt make it." Marie said crying in her moms arms.

"Im sure she will be fine sweetheart but I think maybe we should go home and get you cleaned up." Her mom said

"Are you fucking kidding me mom? My best friend is in a coma and you want me to go home?" She said scolding her mother

"It was just a suggestion dear." Her mother said embarrassed now.

"I will go home when I know my best friend is alive and well." Marie added pacing back and forth.

I have never seen Marie so upset before.

"Hi I am Larissa, are you guys here for Laura King?" My doctor asked.

"Yes we are is she ok?" Marie asked anxiously

"She is alive but still non-responsive." The doctor stated

"Well when can we see her?" Marie asked

"Now If you'd like, but only one at a time, I dont want her to be overwhelmed." The doctor said

Marie turned around to see everyone looking at her indicating that she should go, since none of Laura's family was here yet.

"I'll go." Laura said turning back to the doctor

"Right this way. " she said motioning for Marie to follow.

As my doctor and Marie were making their way to the ICU where i was being held, Marie looked so nervous. Her hands were shaking and she was sweating like a cow. I haven't seen her this nervous since our fifth grade Christmas Play. We had been waiting for this since the 3rd grade. Only the fifth graders got to do it. Well anyways it was 5 minutes until we were to go on and Marie started panicking about how she forgot all of her lines and how she couldn't go on. I kept telling her that I would be right there holding her hand through it all. When it came time for us to perform, she blew it out of the water in a good way of course. Oh how I loved that play.

As we approached my ICU Marie started freaking out. She was hysterically crying about how it was too hard for her to see me like that, and she wasn't sure if she could do it. My mom let go of my hand and walked out of the room to meet Marie.

"Marie sweetheart, are you ok." my mom asked looking concerned.

"Oh hey Mrs.King, I-im fine." she

studdered. "It's just I-I cant see her like that, all plugged up and unconscious, I-it scares me." She said while sobbing into her hands.

"Oh sweetheart I know this is hard to see your best friend like this, but how do you think she feels. I mean she is the one plugged up to the machines." My mother said. "I know this is hard but she needs her best friend right now." My mom said rubbing Marie's back In soothing circles.

"Y-yeah your right Mrs.King." she said stumbling to her feet

"Come on sweetheart we will do it together." My mom said reaching a hand down for Marie to grab.
