CHARITY (poem)

557 10 1

Charity starts at home
she looks everywhere
but nothing
is found
a cold space where
something should be
her heart perhaps
or was it a sun
how do you lose
the scent of
flowers and a garden
that never knew night
her door is opened
and closed
and opened
and closed
but only a wall
that never leaves
red bricks are counted
mortar dust tickles
her nose
this now where
once a smell of grass
and endless light sanctuary
Charity starts at home
and there she will finish
