Jane At Sixteen

Jane's sweet sixteen party was a blast. It seemed as if the whole school were present.
John was her dance partner when the music turned on.
"You've got amazing moves", John complemented her "Thanks, you too, John, your dance steps are quite amazing. Could you teach me? "
She joked putting her hand on her head, legs crossed, turned around and swing her hand, almost falling, John caught her when she was about falling.
Everyone clapped for them.
"Your fall seemed real," Rose, her school friend told her.
"It was real, if not for John's wonder hands, I would have really fallen"
"John is quite a charmer, isn't he?," Rose winked at her
"Take your eyes off my best friend or I would take your eyes off" , Jane teased.
"Tell me..." , Rose rubbed her shoulder against Jane as they watched John from a corner where he went to get drinks
"Do you have a crush on him? "
Jane took a silly look at Rose.. "what!?... Why do you ask? "
"I just want to know, bestie"
Jane looked at Rose, who was her second best friend, Rose looked sincere "Yes. I've had a crush on him since I was thirteen, but it's only a crush, nothing more"
"I knew it!" , Rose stole a glance at John and smiled .."you know...its written all over your attitude towards him"
"But do you think he likes me too?",Jane asked.
They looked at John, suddenly, Vivianne walked past John and gave him a peck on the cheek and before they knew it, they were already chatting.
John was totally absent minded that he hadn't noticed Vivianne had collected the drink meant for  Jane.
"That girl", Jane gritted her teeth, she squeezed her palm, and stumped her foot on the floor.
"First of all, she stole my idea of a project work in school, then she stole my dance steps on our School's annual talent, and now my best friend "
"Take it easy Jane. I don't think John into her... yet"

Vivianne moved into the neighborhood two years back, her dad was an engineer and her mom was a film star. Ever since she moved into the neighborhood she had been Jane's number one Rival as she always competed with Jane in almost everything
   "Annoying ordeal" , Jane said.

Jane and Rose were still chatting near the pool and Jane was totally distracted by John and Vivianne's conversation at the other corner , she missed a step and fell into the pool screaming.

Everybody at the party faced her, even the music stopped playing.
Mike at the other edge was laughing at her, he was in his final year at high school while Anthony was already in college.
"I went into the pool intentionally " Jane said sheepishly
"Because it's time for the pool party guys, and we don't feel like wearing swimsuits"
Rose jumped into the pool too, screaming.

Some other people joined them in the pool
"Thanks a trillion billion ", Jane said to Rose
"You're welcome,  anytime "
John had left his discussion with Vivianne and joined them in the pool.
He swam close to Jane
    "Hey.... Jane,  I'm sorry for not bringing your drink. Vivianne was actually asking me if I would be interested in a music contract"
Jane rolled her eyes "Really? "
"Yes", John replied enthusiastically "she said she loves my singing and how I play the guitar and would like to feature in a song with me... Ahh...  She was trilled... She said when she watched the video I posted on my instagram "
"Really? " Jane rolled her eyes again,  not sounding excited.
Vivianne was a spoilt brat for all she cared.  The fact that she had featured herself in some music videos and was a  'star'- baby didn't make her pompous. Vivianne was actually going to be an actress and musician, so what?
Jane wasn't happy

"Why ain't you happy? " John asked her, wrapping his arms around her shoulders in the pool..  He continued "it's your day... You ... " Jane cuts him by replying..
"I'm feeling woozy,  that's all.. ", she said getting out of the pool. She wiped herself with a towel and ran into house, in tears. Rose  immediately followed her behind.
Jane got into her room, changed into her pyjamas and sluggishly got on her bed, Rose also. Rose was actually having a sleepover at Jane's so she brought her stuffs.
Jennifer had gone on a trip and was going to be back the following week.
"Why that sad face? " Rose asked Jane.  Tears rolled down slowly from Jane's eyes . "Nothing" she replied sad but softly...
"Come on let it out. You can confide in me "
" well.... " she wiped off the tears rolling down with the back of her palm...  "..Vivianne is trying to take John away from me " , she cried "John had been my childhood friend since like forever. My family and his are good friends and I grew up knowing him as my friend "
"Hey... Don't be sad" Rose whispered to Jane "All is going to be well" , she pats her hands through Jane's hair and comforted her till she slept off.
Rose went out to end the party.
