"Ok, so are you going to tell me why you dragged me out here? Especially at 12 at night!" Alec yelled, dark circles forming under his eyes. He felt and looked like the definition of exhausted. Though that didn't stop his beloved best friends, Emilia and River.
They had dragged him out of bed, and drove him out to the woods. If he didn't know them well, he would've thought they were going to kill him. Though- that wasn't the case.
The reason they had brought him out      here was because of his soul link. Everyone in this world was connected to someone, by something called a soul link. The usual age was thirteen, that's when you would feel a special connection.
Alec was one of the unfortunate ones, he hadn't felt that special connection everyone raved about, honestly he was starting to think that special someone didn’t exist. Telling his friends this, they went overboard and searched far and wide for his soulmate.
After years of the two of them pestering him about it, they had finally came up with an solution. Which had lead to them bringing him to the middle of the woods like serial killers, thankfully that wasn’t the case.
"Ugh...if you'd stop complaining on the way here, then maybe we would've been able to explain it to you earlier!" Emilia shouted back. The only sain person still there was River, quiet and watching this display happen.
"Well sorry if I'm worried about my own well being..." He scoffed, rolling his eyes away from her.
"Okay, okay... instead of wasting time why don't we explain to Alec why we brought him here." River so kindly suggest. Bless his good natured soul. The voice of reason in madness.
Emilia groaned, knowing that she would have to get over her stubbornness. "Fine...let me explain ok." She began, "So do you know what today is?" Emilia reached her hands to the sky dramatically.
"Uh...my birthday." Alec said hesitantly, scared for what was going to come next.
"Yes, but it's not just that. River would you so kindly tell our friend what else happens today." Emilia sweeped her hands in front of her, motioning River to now talk. Now sliding herself out of the way.
Clearing his throat, River stepped forward. "Well you see today is a special day! It only happens every thousand years, on this day. Which actually was a coincidence, but a good one at that." He smiled to himself, somewhat proud that he was able to discover such a thing.
"Uh huh...and what's supposed to happen? My soulmate is just going to fall out of the sky!?" Alec was starting to get impatient. He would rather be sleeping right now, then dealing with something he knew wouldn't work. He had already accepted the fact that the world didn't have someone for him.
"Wait...you think we're here about your soulmate?" River looked confused, and Alec mirrored his expression.
".... well yeah we brought you here about your soulmate, but mostly for you to get the subject off your mind." Emilia muttered, looking like a sad puppy dog. A breathy sigh escaped her mouth as she continued. "I know how much you looked forward to getting you're soul link."
"We know how much you enjoy seeing the stars! So we brought you out here to distract you." River added, after his confusing staring contest with Alec. With that they brought him over to a clearing, the dark navy blue sky endless and beautiful. It was sprinkled with glittering stars, sort of reminding Alec of the painting "*Starry Night*." It was mesmerizing how each for in the sky, just lit up like candles. Everyone was quiet. The only thing that could be heard was the wildlife around the group of teens.
Suddenly the sky seemed to shift, lining up the array of lights. Soon it seemed like they all were mashed together into one big star.  That's when everything went dead silent, not even a pin drop. Alec watched in complete awe, as the sky seemed to shine brighter then before. This feeling sparked inside him, it was like a flowing river. Filling up his senses, making that nice calm river now overflow. The feeling was overwhelming, making him stumble a bit. His breaths became heavy pants for air. What was this weird feeling? Why was this happening to him!? He now thought this was the world's cruel joke on him, just adding to his problems.
Alec hadn't realized that his two friends were freaking out next to him. Asking if he was ok. If he needed to go to the hospital. They looked so worried about him. Now noticing that Alec wasn't answering them, they decided to bring him back to the car. Lugging him in, right before he passed out across the backseat of Rivers jeep.
The last thing Alec could remember was the back of the front seat, as his eyes got heavy. Slowly his eyes closed, now only seeing the darkness of his eye lids.
