Previously on When the stars Align

The last thing Alec could remember was the back of the front seat, as his eyes got heavy. Slowly his eyes closed, now only seeing the darkness of his eye lids.

Now...

In the beginning of the car ride it was silent. The air around them, thick with tension and worry. River and Emilia had no idea what just happened. They both were equally confused at what had just gone down with their friend. One moment they were staring at the stars, and the next their friend was on the floor crying in agony. It was the strangest thing. None of them saw that coming, it honestly had scared them.

"What happened back there..." Emilia said, breaking the tension filled air. She had turned in her seat, facing the drive and owner of the car.

"... I-I uh..." The stutter in River's voice was clear as day. He was trying to figure out the same thing. It had shaken him to see his long time best friend screaming on the ground. River had never seen this happen to the other male before. "I don't know." His tone straight forward, keeping his eyes on the road.

Emelia leaned back in her seat, face looking up at the roof of the car. She stared intently at the beige cushioned ceiling, as if it had the answers to her many questions. Her eyes shifted , head turning to the side and looking over her shoulder. Emilia's eyes wandered over the face of the boy she's known since she was born. Watching the sleeping boy lay there in peace. She watched as the light from the headlights shined against Alec's honey tanned skin. Looking over his closed eyes, dark circles forming under, hovering like a shallow.

"This boy really doesn't ever sleep, does he..." Emilia thought as she kept looking at him. Alec was like a little brother to her, they've known each other by their mom's being friends. Which inevitably led them to be friends too. Watching that happen to someone she thought of as family, it was painful. Soon she found her eyes moving back to River who was driving the car. Emilia sighed heavily, now facing in front. "Do you ever think he'll ever stop making me worry..." Her voice filled with concern.

A light hearted chuckle left the male driving the car. "That's impossible." River sneered, turning the steering wheel. The car turned down a dirt road, headlights shining in front of the dark outside.

Emilia glared at him. Actually it was the side of his head, but she was still glaring at him. She cleared her throat, clenching her teeth at him. "What's that supposed to mean..." It seemed that her mood changed rather drastically.

He flinched at her sudden change of tone, though he was still going to poke the bear. "What I mean is that you'd still be worried even if he gave you nothing to worry about." River stated an honest fact.

Silent rage lit up in Emilia's face. She had Latina blood in her veins, fueling her anger. Embarrassment was hiding in her eyes. "T-That's not true! I-I don't do that! I wouldn't d-do that..." Her face was tinged with a slight pinkish shade.

"Heh... embarrassment is a good look on you." River laughed teasingly. He's known her since elementary school, not as long as Alec has known her, but it's long enough. River knows that she acts like an overprotective mother when it comes to Alec. Through the years he's figured it out. At first he thought that she liked him, only to find out those two had known each since birth. Now he knew they considered each other as family.

The heat rose in Emilia's face, making her cheeks a reddish color. She hated being like this, and he was the only one who made her feel this way. Angry and embarrassed, enraged and insecure. "Oh shut up!" Emilia pouted, turning on the radio. Pop hits from the 80's, 90's and 2000's played with the soft humming of the car's engine.

The dirt road was scattered with rocks, making the car jump up a few times. Dark maroon covered the night sky, while the stars still managed to light up the night. It seemed peaceful with the noises of the woods at dark. The trees flew past as the car continued to drive. In front the dirt road seemed to be endless, it'll take them a while to get back to town.

Main Highway 1:15 a.m

A great bored sigh left Emilia, she was leaning against the car window, looking at the white lines on the road as the car drove. The radio in the background, now staticy as the signal got out of reach. She'd tried to fall asleep to pass the time, but she couldn't. Main reason was because she had drunk three cups of coffee before they'd left, and the caffeine was running strong in her veins. So now she sat there annoyed at the radio, and bored out of her mind.

"You don't look so happy..." River's voice cut into her bored brain. His pale green eyes focused on the road, mainly because he was the driver.

"Change the station and I might be." Her face, cranky from not being able to sleep. Now regretting drinking that coffee.

He didn't answer her, knowing that it'll probably just set her off. Instead he took his free hand, reaching over and pressing a button, making the station change. A soft synth tune started to play.

Tell me pretty lies

Look me in the face

Tell me that you love me...

Even if it's fake

Cause I don't fucking care

At all..

His eyes shifted away from the road, turning his attention to the now less irritated girl. Gazing into her bluish brown eyes, watching as her eyelashes moved when she blinked.

Cause I have hella feelings for you

Reaching over he grabbed her hand, holding it in his own. He noticed how her hand stiffened at his touch. River was about to pull away, but then he felt her relax. A few moments of silence passed as the song kept playing. "So...when are we going to tell him." His eyes, already on the road again.

Emilia quickly pulled her hand away. "I... don't know what you're talking about." She tried to look as nonchalant as possible.

"...Come on! We've known for months now. He should know this, we can hide it from him." River's face was as serious as could be, and she took note of that.

Emilia turned to look at him, hoping she could persuade him. "I can't tell him..." She let out a shaky breath, before looking back at her friend that was sleeping. " River...how can I tell him that me and you..." A pause was made before she continued. "Are soulmates..."
