"Ava! Ava!" Ava sat up and glanced down at her phone. It was already 12:40 pm. "Ava we're gonna be late for the cake tasting babe." James explained as Ava was beginning to wake up. She realized she had been sitting in that window pane all night and even slept there.
"Oh .. sorry honey. Let me just go brush my teeth and get situated then we can go okay?" Ava said quickly to her fiancé. Ava and James have been together for two and a half years now and just got engaged seven months ago. As Ava washed her face, she looked into the mirror at her tired eyes. She couldn't stop thinking about the summer of 2020. It had been six years since her and Mattia. But somehow she just couldn't get it out of her head lately.
She glanced down at the ring again and twirled it with her thumb; she loved James she really did but she wasn't sure if he was actually the one she wanted to marry. But how many times do you have the chance to marry someone who loves you with their whole entire heart and that you know would never betray you. These days not too many.
As they sat in the car on the way to the bakery Ava couldn't stop thinking.
*flashback*
"Hahah nooo stoppp!!" Ava yelled at Mattia as he was splashing the pool water into her face. Ava and Mattia has been talking for like 2 weeks now and they were at a pool party with everyone. Chase was giving them some side eye from the edge of the pool. He was just jealous he didn't have a boyf.
"You know I've had a lot of fun with you." Mattia said kind of weirdly.
"What do you mean?" Ava says
"I mean that I want to be more than talking. I want to call you my girlfriend." Mattia said with a smirk.
"Are you asking me out?"
"Uh.. yeah I guess that's what this is." Mattia says "so.. what do you say?"
"Yes. Yes of course I'll be your girlfriend." They embrace one a kiss. A couple of their friends that were sneakily watching said "oooooohhh" Mattia scoffed but all Ava could do was smile. She knew this was going to be a summer to remember.
"So do you want to grab some dinner after this?" Ava said
"Oh um yeah of course." They stared into each other's eyes; they both felt so deeply that were just meant to be.
Later that night Mattia picked Ava up from chases house. She was wearing a light pink dress and white sandals. It was really hot in the summer in New Jersey. As Ava walked up to the car Mattia said "you look beautiful."
"Thanks" Ava said blushing uncontrollably. She got into his car and asked where they were going.
"Oh I thought we could go to my father's restaurant for some Italian food."
"That sounds great." Ava said. She was really looking forward to some din din.
Mattia was wearing gray plaid pants, a gold chain and a black turtle neck. She glanced at his outfit and laughed a little.
He noticed and muttered "what? what is it?"
"Nothing, nothing; it's just you're dressed like literally every other boy ever. It's just funny that's all. You look good though."
"Haha thanks." They both share a slight laugh. Ava notices the song that was playing in the radio. Sweater weather. She used to love that song when she was trying to be a relatable tumblr 8th grader on her kindle. "I used to love this song" she said as she turned it up a little bit. The chorus was just coming on and she sang along while looking Mattia in the eyes.
"Cause it's too cooooooold for you here. And now just let me- hahahha" she was cut off by their incessant laughter.
They smiled at each other."Ava we're here! Get ready to try some cake!" James said very excited
