Chapter 1

HOUGHTON, MICHIGAN(08.00 PM)

It was a cold and breezy night.Houses nearby were decorated with lights and decorations.I could hear chatter and laughter of children.Everyone were excited.After all,it's Christmas tomorrow.I was enjoying the view when my colleague,Raymon joined me."Enjoying the view Adam?'asked Raymon."Yes,look how everyone are enjoying Christmas Eve."I said in an excited tone."Well everyone is enjoying Christmas Eve except us.Here we are stuck doing our duty."said Raymon."That's a downside in our job but look at the bright side,because of us,everyone can enjoy Christmas Eve without worrying about anything.It makes me happy to see our citizens enjoying without any tension.It makes me happy to see everyone safe and sound.Our town has been awarded for being the most crime-free town.

If me sacrificing my holidays makes everyone happy and safe,then I will do it a million times."I said while taking a sip of my coffee."Woah,you've been working for the past 20 years and you still love your job?It's only been 3 years to my job and I'm already getting irritated.What's the secret of your love towards your job?"asked Raymon. We were busy having a conversation when our colleague Sandra interrupted us."Officers,there's a new case.A woman in her mid twenties has confessed killing her husband.When asked the reason,all she says is that I loved him."said Sandra."What?Let's go guys."I said.

I walked into the interrogation room.It was a dark and large room.It was cold too.I walked to the opposite side of the table and sat in front of the woman.The woman's eyes were swollen.It seemed as if she had been crying for hours."Ma'am I am officer Adam. I've been informed that you confessed killing your husband. May I know why?"I said politely. Usually we policemen are strict with culprits but this woman seemed innocent."Because I.... lo....loved him"said the woman after a long pause.

"I'm confused. Why would you kill someone you love?"I asked curiously."Sometimes....we don't have a choice. Sometimes...... that's the right thing to do...."said the woman sadly. I could sense Sandra and Raymon's irritation over the reply given."Listen ma'am I don't understand anything. Please explain clearly. Most importantly what's your name?" I asked.

"My name is Aria. A month ago my husband Jerome and I had an accident. I suffered minor injuries but Jerome suffered post-traumatic amnesia(memory loss) after the accident.... Everything was ruined due to this amnesia.....everything

We were so happy before his accident. Everything was perfect. Jerome and I first met at a cafe. He was there for his business meeting and I used to work there to help my uncle. When i first saw him,I fell for him and his beautiful hazel brown eyes.His eyes were deep and it seemed as if it craved love.His smile was infectious and he had a cute dimple on his right.I don't know what happened but there was this strong urge to talk to him,to hear his voice. This had never happened to me. It was a weird feeling. When he ordered a cup of coffee, I rushed to serve him his coffee. Every step I walked towards him,made my heartbeat go faster. When I served him his coffee,he said thank you and I was dumbstruck. I couldn't even say your welcome. I was nervous so i just smiled and he smiled back. I rushed to my friend Naomi and told her everything. "You're in love baby girl" said Naomi while smiling. I obviously didn't believe Naomi but deep down I was dying to meet that mysterious man again. The next day I reached the cafe early and was waiting for him the whole day but he did not come. I was really sad. Probably it was just an infatuation. Naomi kept saying that he too might have feelings for me but I refused to believe her. How can someone fall in love just by meeting once. Probably what I felt was just infatuation and craziness. A week passed since I saw Jerome.One night,when I returned home from work,Jerome was there.He was in my living room talking to my dad and uncle.I had mixed feelings when I saw him.He smiled at me and I walked away pretending that I didn't see him.My aunt told me that Jerome wants to marry me.I was shocked to hear that.When we were alone,I asked him that why does he want to marry me."Why do you want to marry me?You don't even know me and marriage is a huge decision.I don't even know your name and do you know what's my name?"I asked.
