THE COMPLETE TRUTH

Chapter 2

"Aria, what you did was....wrong.What's done can't be undone but I'll let the court decide for you. "I said before leaving the interrogation room.Officer Sandra arrested Aria while officer Raymon sent a team to Aria's house for forensic investigation. Jerome's dead body was sent to the hospital for postmortem. All the necessary things were done for our investigation.

After two hours, officer Raymon updated me about the investigation progress. "We've done a post-mortem of Jerome's body and the results were that he was poisoned at 7.00 p.m,an hour before Aria arrived here. We've also done forensic investigation at her house and we found nothing suspicious. I've rechecked with the doctors in charge who treated Jerome when he was admitted and their statement matched with Aria's statement. The doctor in charge,Dr Ryan told me that he asked Aria if she would like to hire a nurse to take care of Jerome but she insisted on taking care of him on her own.

Aria would have won the best wife award if Jerome was alive but unfortunately he's death and she has to get punished for her crime. I think she would be sentenced to death or probably have a 3 year jail punishment. "said Raymon. I was busy thinking about the details Raymon informed me."Something's wrong. Something doesn't seem right. Think about it,the woman who was willing to take the 5 percent chance to remind her husband about their past,why would she poison the same husband?" I asked officer Raymon." Well,she probably was tired of tolerating him and his bad behaviour or maybe she wanted to kill him and be the sole owner of his property. But then why would she confess her crime?" said Raymon. " I don't think so. She doesn't seem the greedy type. You know what,I'm gonna go meet Aria. I have some questions that needs answers and only she can answer them." I said before walking to Aria's cell. The prison was a quiet and empty place. Aria was the only one who was locked up in the cell. It's been months since I last came here.

I walked to the last lock-up where Aria was kept. She was sitting on the floor, wiping her tears. I walked towards her and sat beside her."Aria,I want to ask you something.May I?" I asked politely."Sure." said Aria. "Whatever you told us just now,was that all? Look Aria, I've been working as an officer for the past 20 years. I have met many criminals and heard their confession but your confession seemed incomplete. It was as if you are hiding something from us. Why would you kill your husband? Just because he said he was tired of life? The woman who was willing to take that 5 percent chance, believed her husband when he said he didn't want to live anymore and she agreed to end his life. It doesn't seem convincing Aria. Your story seems incomplete, it seems like the half-truth" I said.

Would you believe me if I told you the complete truth." said Aria."Yes." I replied. "Why?"asked Aria "Because you're different. You're eyes,they reflect honesty and pain. I can figure out a person's character just by looking at their eyes and your eyes tell me that you aren't a criminal. When I first saw you at the interrogation room,the first thing I saw was your eyes. They were swollen. It seemed as if you have been crying for hours. If you had any bad intention,you wouldn't cry for your husband. This proves that you're not evil and that you cared for Jerome. Aria, I want to know the complete truth" I said calmly." What I told you is the complete truth." said Aria. I was hoping that she would confide in me but she didn't.

The next day,Aria was presented at the court for her punishment. A lawyer was hired for her and she was asked if she would like to prove herself innocent but Aria didn't agree. She admitted of being guilty. The judge gave her a 3 year in prison sentence. Aria was jailed for 3 years and only her basic necessities were supplied to her. In this 3 year time,I tried finding every detail about Aria but to no use. None of her neighbours knew about her past. I tried asking Aria about her past but she refused to tell me anything about her past.

24th December 2023

"Remember Raymon,3 years ago on this day we met Aria and heard her story. She's finally free now. She has completed her punishment. I hope she starts afresh and move on from the past." I said while drinking coffee. "Yes,I remember. Well, wish her luck for that."said Raymon. We were busy talking when Aria arrived. "Wish you luck Aria. Start afresh and move on from your past. You have a long way to go and life is extremely beautiful. Enjoy Aria." I said with a smile. Aria smiled back and thanked us for being nice to her. "Where will you stay Aria?"asked officer Sandra. "I'll stay at where this all started. Happy manor."said Aria." Take care and Aria I don't know what you did was wrong or right,but I do know that you loved Jerome a lot."said Sandra. "Thank you and sorry everyone. Goodbye."said Aria before leaving. After Aria left,we all went back to our daily life and as time passed we were so engrossed in our work that we forgot about her.

"Adam, here. Look at this. Aria sent you a gift.She wrote this book and here is it,the answers to your questions. She has a note for you too. Go on,read it."said Raymon while handing me the letter. I started reading the letter." Dear officer Adam, you've always asked me what's the complete truth. Read this book and you will understand everything. Thank you."wrote Aria. "What is written in the note?"asked Adam." She said read this book and you will understand everything. I'll read this book since there's nothing to do today." I replied. "Okay, I will not disturb you and I'll inform everyone that you are busy,so they should not bother you."said Raymon while leaving. I thanked Raymon and sat on my chair and started reading the book. The book's tittle is (The Complete Truth).

The day we met him. The day everything was ruined. Life was so perfect before we met him. Layla and I were so happy together in our small world. Layla,my twin. The light of my soul. Since childhood, Layla and I have always been together. Our mum died due to cancer when we were 10 and since then our aunt Mary has been taking care of us. Aunt Mary loves me but at the same time she hates Layla. I guess that's because I'm obedient, quiet and mature while Layla is the complete opposite of me. She's loud, immature and has a rebellious attitude. To be honest, Layla was the one who made my life fun. I still remember when mum died,aunt Mary and uncle John explained to me that it's time I grow up and be mature. They told me that since I'm the oldest, I have to be responsible and etc etc. Me being the obedient child I am, listened to them and somewhere I lost my childhood. Layla was different tho. She had always been the childish one and that's what I love about her....I still remember how we first met him......
