"Mom," Will crept behind her and tapped her shoulder. "Yes sweetheart?" The woman turned around from washing the dishes. He gulped and opened his eyes. "The boys said they have to go, but, Mike asked if I could stay at his..." The boy said it so quiet that he almost had to repeat it. Joyce sighed, putting a plate down. "Are you sure your parents will be okay with that Mike?" She asked, rather loudly for being a secret. Mike nodded in hopes that she would let him. "Well, if you promise not to cause any trouble," she pinched her son's cheek and shooed him off.
"Where are you guys going?" El asked, a sad expression plastered on her face. "Home," Dustin said. The others nodded in agreement. "Why is Will going?" Max sat in silence, smirking slightly each time El asked a question. "Uhh, well I- uh..." Mike continued Will's sentence for him. "Will's coming to mine tonight," he smiled, looking at the boy. He blushed slightly at the thought before snapping out of it. El nodded and continued to talk to Max. The boys made their way out and they were off to the movies. Will kicked stones to distract himself from the bleak air, the cold ran through his bones. "Will, are you okay?" Mike questioned, concerned for the smaller, more nimble boy. "Yeah... just cold." Mike removed his jacket and placed it over Will's shoulders. "O-oh thanks," The short boy blushed, but kept his head down to hide it.
The movie theatre downtown was open. Bright neon lights burned the eyes of costumers as they walked into the building. "I'm telling you Lucas, they're in love with each other, they're infatuated." Dustin claimed. Lucas just nodded, watching the two boys ahead, one wearing the others jacket. "You're telling me, I mean, look how Mike acts... He's practically saying Will kiss me!" He raised his voice slightly, causing Dustin to elbow him. "They'll hear you and then we'll be in deep shit." They had gone to watch manhunter. Mike had said a horror movie was to get them in the chills, but both boys knew that Mike just wanted to hold Will if he got scared.
With a popcorn bucket and soda each. The boys made their way into the screen room. "Now is the real test," Dustin smirked at Lucas. "Lucas, E1. Will,E2. Me,E3 and Mike,E4." Mike's face changed expression. "Hey Lucas buddy, do you wanna swap?" Lucas chuckled. "So you can cuddle your boyfriend?" Mike gritted his teeth. "He's not my boyfriend," Will didn't move. "Will, what do you want to do?" Dustin asked. He stood there and looked at each of the three boys. "I don't know... I'll sit anywhere," Dustin smirked, leaving Lucas and Mike bickering all the time until the film started. The only time they shut up was when an old couple in front of them hushed them and made them sit down.
Mike sulked in his seat, munching on popcorn and looking in Will's direction. He wanted to watch his reactions, he was cute... "Psst, Mike." Dustin nudged him. "Don't take it personally. We were just messing with you, watch the film... Will's fine." He turned to face the screen again, but Mike continued staring at the boy. The film was coming to an end, the popcorn was nearly finished and Will was still sitting in Mike's jacket.
They left the theatre and Mike made sure he had a small grip on Will's hand. They walked until it was just the two boys standing in front of the taller boy's house. "Come on," Mike held Will's hand a little tighter and pulled him through the door. He took off the jacket, handing it to him. "I-I forgot... I need to go and get some spare clothes. I'll come back I just need to-" He panicked, turning to face the door. Mike stopped him, by grabbing his hand and chuckling. "I mean, you've already worn my jacket, just wear something of mine, I don't need them." Mike laughed a little, trying not to wake his family up. The two had forgotten how late it was. Will looked down shyly and blushed. "You sure?" He whispered. Mike nodded and held his hand, leading him upstairs.
They walked into the bedroom. It felt strange at first, but nice... It felt like they were young again... Like when sleepovers were a regular things. The two boys would read comics and watch movies whilst stuffing their cheeks full of snacks. But then, Eleven showed up and things changed. He had missed being Mike's number one... All he had ever cared about was that girl. Mike handed Will the clothes and let him go to change.
He stepped out of the bathroom, wearing some of Mike's pyjamas. The clothes were a bit big for Will since his friend was taller, but they were comfy. He sat down beside him, twiddling his thumbs and avoiding eye contact. He yawned and placed his head on the raven-haired boy's shoulder, earning a small chuckle from Mike. He wrapped his arms around the boy and pulled him down, so he was laying next to him.
Will blushed but tried his best to hide it, his face buried in Mike's chest. The clothes they wore were fluffy, and the smaller boy liked the feel of them... he yawned again, gripping the shirt with his fingers. "Tired?" Mike asked, placing his hand on Will's head and ruffling the hair. Will looked up and smiled, giving a slight nod to indicate his answer. He sat his cheek on Mike's shoulder and closed his eyes before lifting his head again. It was as though he was panicked, too afraid to just fall asleep. What if Mike thought he was weird or something?
"You can get comfortable you know... don't worry about it, I don't mind" Mike whispered, running his fingers through the sleepy boy's hair. Will nodded and yawned once more, closing his eyes and shuffling closer to Mike's warm body. "Goodnight..."He buried his nose under the boys neck and let out a small breath. Mike leant over to turn the light out and gently wrapped his arms around the smaller boy. "Goodnight..."
