Chapter 16: Runaway

Quick Note: I might be bending timeline a little bit between what is basically Season 1 and 2 of AOT. Sorry.

Sage POV

It had been a few hours since the fight. Annie's wounds weren't healing properly. Her arms twisted around like snakes.

A: I need to go into a sort of hibernation Sage.

S: What do you need?

A: I can go into a shell and, well, hide to heal better.

S: Okay. How long will it take.

A: I don't know. I will be able to hear everything that happens outside, but I won't be able to communicate.

S: If this gets you better then do it.

Little did I know that would be the last time I would see her in a long time. I would later find out that Eren had somehow sensed Annie's transformation. I don't know. All I know was when I cam back the scouts had surrounded the place and carried Annie out. Erwin, Levi (who is still injured but yah know how cares), and Hanji were waiting for me to return.

L: Look Sage. I know you feel attached to her. Kenny made you that way bu-

S: You're wrong.

I said standing there. Blades drawn, looking for an escape.

L: What?

S: I said you're wrong. I attach to people because I never had a family. I don't know who I am. I need other people to find my identity. 

L: Are you serious? You're Sage. You ha-

S: As far as I'm concerned, I'm just the girl beyond the wall.

L: What the hell is that supposed to mean?

S: He never told you did he? Kenny found me outside the wall. I don't even know where I'm from. Annie might have, but I guess it doesn't matter.

I found my opening and took it. Scouts were swapping positions on the left. I pulled out my wings and flew out through the nearest hole topside. Of course, they had a plan for that.

Eren's titan snatched me out of the sky.

S: Put. Me. Down.

He cocked his head to the side confused.

S: You're an actual human so it might be harder to control you. But I think I'll manage. Put me down.

His hand began to shake as it slowly moved towards the ground. My feet rested on the ground, but by then the rest of the scouts had caught up.

S: Turn back.

He began to struggle and convulse, but in the end he submitted. The steam made it impossible for them to know where to hook their cables. I flew out without a scratch.

I can't stay here anymore. Of course, stopping to think bought them enough time to recover and charge at me. Erwin at the head.

I flew up and over the wall and they followed.

E: You can't run forever Sage!

S: You can't fly forever!

He gritted his teeth and then I saw it. There were more positioned in the small trees scattering the field. I was surrounded.

E: Surrender. Now.

I don't know what compelled me to do it. I guess I'm just crazy. I screamed. It wasn't even human. It sounded like Annie did in the forest.

Then there was the rumbling. Footsteps thundering, and getting closer.

I cracked a smile.

S: Maybe you should be the one running now Commander.

I took my sweet time flying over to the tree-line of a forest of giant trees. I looked back at the wall. Erwin was staring at me with his ice cold eyes.

I knew he wouldn't be able to her me from that distance- so I did the next best thing.

I flipped off the Commander of the Survey Core

What can I say I'm petty.
