I see Sarah running towards us but she stops in front of me and asked me money for an ice cream. Before I could answered Nicholas suprised and angered me by saying "go ask charity to another person".
I couldn't believe he would say something like that to a child. Sarah's hand searched for mine. I gave her my hand and looked a Nicholas with sad eyes "The need to say something like that to a kid is a big turn off". In my insides I was laughing, I could see in his eyes how he didn't expected my comment.
I go with Sarah to the ice cream man. "Could I have a vainilla ice cream please?" She asks and looks at me waiting for me to give her the money so she could pay. I searched in the pockets of my jean and find a five dollar bill. I give it to Sarah and she waits for the ice cream man to get her ice cream.
In the moment the ice cream man comes "Joe take this for the ladies ice creams" I see Nicholas trying to give the ice cream man-Joe- a five dollar bill like mine. I say to Sarah that now is the moment she need to fight to give Joe the bill.
Joe laughs at seeing Nicholas and takes his bill. Nicholas asks me what ice cream I want. I smile playfully and ask for cherry. When Joe gives us the ice creams I say to him "I would like to pay for my ice cream instead of that the man who offended my daughter and me paying". He looks at me and my nice smile and after looks at Sarah, She happily offers him the bill. He took it and gave back the bill to Nicholas with an apologizing look.
Sarah and I go to the apartment right after buying the ice cream because I have to plan what I'll say in the interview tomorrow and get everything ready for Sarah's birthday.

I am wearing a blue jumpsuit with light make up. I put my curriculum in my beige bag with my phone.
I put my hair in a high ponytail and get out of the apartment to start my way to Mountain Winds-The building I would be managing. When I am in front of the building I see Nicholas standing in the door. He scans me with his green eyes down to up. "I guess you are Lyla Rodriguez". He says smiling with kind eyes, like yesterday didn't happened. "I'm Nicholas Avery. I was selected by the other owner to contract the manager". He says giving me his hand so I shook it again.
He open the frontal door of the building for me and guide me to a room in the lobby. Everything was modern. The room had a wood desk with two chairs in front of it and one behind that had four little wheels. The room had a couple of paintings. There was a painting behind the chair with the wheels, that impacted me. It had a beautiful mountain with a greenish blue lake that had ducks. The sky in the painting was breathtaking, it felt so real and magical. A light blue with well painted clouds, it had something that make you wish that you could go in there. "I painted it, you know" Nicholas interrupted my thoughts "I painted in a trip with my big sister, Eleonor, it was a competition because both of us love painting. I really fell in love with that place".
I saw the nostalgic look on his face and I smiled kindly to him. "Who won the competition?" He laughed loud when he heard my question. "Let's not talk about who won". He said smiling.
"I'm really sorry with what I said to your daughter". He said looking sincere.
"When does the interview starts?". I ask him changing the theme. "Right now".
...
"You could start working today, If you want of course".
The interview was perfect. He told me about some owners that were really exigent. Every manager of the building has quit because of them. It makes work more interesting, and stressing of course.
"Today's Sarah's birthday, I can't. Tomorrow it would be perfect". I say smiling, he told me he would get the paperwork done.
"You could come to Sarah's birthday if you want" I say without thinking. He just was so nice and kind all the interview and the painting really got me hypnotized.
"Sure"
...
"Mommy! I'm big girl now". Sarah says jumping in my arms.
"Oh no, you are so big, I can't hold you" I say while stumbling jokingly holding her.
"Sarah, is bad for mommy's back holding you when you are so big". Says my mom while greeting me. Sarah's not so big, she's just very tall for her age. "And who is here?" My mom says to Nicholas.
Nicholas and I went together to the bakery, he was holding the cake. "He is Nicholas, he owns an apartment in the building I'm going to work".
Nicholas very fast becomed a friend of the parents of Sarah's friends.
"Mom, where is Jonathan?" I whisper to her, I don't see Sarah's father anywhere. "Her girlfriend got bored so he apologized to Sarah and took off". She says angrily. I was still a friend of Jonathan but I hated her girlfriend and she hated me. She was very bitchy to Sarah and me.
"I like Nicholas for you". Says my mom smiling.
"I've only known him a day, he could be a psychopath". I say laughing "And I'm not searching a relationship".
