At the time of this first draft of the Afterward, the world is shut down, including Vegas, from Coronavirus (COVID-19). However, before creating this story, I had an insert about Land of Light, the Asian "Busch Gardens" park. It was a small local scheme and not a novel, but a play. I might make mentions to it in future edits of Sin City and Secret of Angles, but not its own story.
I also had a different third book, that became the fourth, and finally scrapped, set in Australia connected to Christine originally being descended from Nancy Drew and her being rescued from Aboriginal beasts and would have gone down the Riorden Route with Gods and stuff. It was all too fantastical for the more realistic world I'd already had (bar the collection).
I got the inspiration after watching a special on the High Roller Ferris wheel on Science. Along with the ties to Area 51 with Kiva, I felt making Kiva's firing no accident, but actual obstruction of justice by Locke and Landing.
Like with the previous stores and their park facts, I wanted to add some jabs and jokes in where possible. There is even a reference to the shooting at Mandalay Bay about the rough decade Vegas faced up to and including the events of this book (remember, COVID-19 did not happen, or maybe was a direct affect of KW2 like Spanish Flu and WWI, IDK).
With the Hard Rock's change of hand, and Richard Branson's wealth, I thought it would also be a nice idea to explore him having a collection piece in each of his hotel locations.
Early on, I wanted the climax to be at The Stratosphere (now THE STRAT) hotel, and shortly after than Kiva was going to get murdered by her sister and fall to the boulevard like the never built Fish hook coaster would have (there is some interesting content on it, look it up).
I also want it to be a moment that Kelson and Lindsay can share about their relations with Kiva and almost attempt to tie things off, yet leaving justice to be desired.
To make the next book, Secret of Angles, to work now, I've had to work in they want to wait til America is in the spotlight-which I feel is good enough of an excuse.
