Here's the next song everyone! It's another cover, and another long song. Oh, and it was only ever done live. And it can be found, well, on YouTube, yes, but also in an album, of which only a hundred were ever made.
Anyways, this is a Bruce Springsteen song, but it was covered by Rise Against's Tim McIlrath; Wayne Kramer of MC5; Brian Fallon, The Gaslight Anthem; and Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine. So, yeah. I'll put the original and the RATM cover at the bottom, too. So you can choose your favorite. Let me know which you prefer.
I don't own the song, bands, lyrics, or videos.
Also, this is my anthem for the imminent global economic recession.
Enjoy, and thanks for listening and reading!

Tim:
Uh, I want to bring some friends out here tonight play with us here. We got, from the band MC5, Mr. Wayne Kramer, everybody!
*Audience cheers*
And you saw him earlier tonight, let's bring out Brian. Where's Brian at? ..... Where is he? Where's my man? Brian Fallon, The Gaslight Anthem, ladies and gentlemen.
*Audience cheers*
And a band that inspired so many of us..... Rage Against The Machine, Mr. Tom Morello, everybody!
*Audience cheers*
.................
Tim: We're gonna have a little fun.
.................
Men walkin' 'long the railroad track,
When you're going some place,
There's no going back.
Highway patrol,
Choppers coming up over the ridge,
Hot soup on a campfire,
Under the bridge.Shelter line stretching 'round the corner;
Welcome to the New World Order.
Families sleepin' in their cars
In the Southwest,
No home, no job, no peace, no rest.Well the highway is alive tonight,
Where it's headed, nobody knows.
I'm sitting out here in the campfire light,
Searching for the
Ghost of Tom Joad.
.............
Pulls a prayer book,
Out of his sleeping bag.
Preacher lights up a butt,
And takes a drag.
Waiting for when,
The Last shall be First,
And the First shall be Last.
In a cardboard box,
'Neath the underpass.You gotta one-way ticket,
To the promised land.
You got a hole in your belly,
And a gun in your hand.
Sleeping on a pillow of solid rock;
Bathin' in the city's aqueduct.
(Aqueduct)Well the highway is alive tonight,
Where it's headed, everybody knows.
I'm sitting out here in the campfire light,
Waitin' on the
Ghost of Tom Joad.
...................
Tom said,
"Mom, wherever there's a cop,
Beatin' a guy;
Wherever a hungry newborn baby cries;
Where there's a fight,
Against the blood and hatred in the air;
Look for me, Mom,
I'll be there.
Wherever there's somebody fighting,
For a place to stand;
A decent job,
Or a helping hand;
Wherever somebody's struggling,
To be free;
LOOK IN THEIR EYES, MOM,
YOU'LL SEE ME!"Well the highway is alive tonight,
Where it's headed, everybody knows.
I'm sitting out here in the campfire light,
With the ghost,
Of Old Tom Joad!Well the highway is alive tonight,
Where it's headed, everybody knows.
I'm sitting out here in the campfire light,
With the ghost,
Of Old Tom Joad!
With the ghost,
Of Old Tom Joad!
With the ghost,
Of Old Tom Joad!
.............
Tim:
