Murphy's POV

I sat in the corner of the gym, not really interested in the school dance. Why they thought it was a good idea to put 400 sweaty teens in the same room on Valentine's Day, I'll never know. Despite the terrible decorations, though, it had a pretty nice vibe. Not paying any attention to the cup of shitty punch in my hand, I let my gaze wander.  My eyes fell upon the incredibly handsome Bellamy, who was dancing with a pretty, blonde-haired girl named Clarke.

Bellamy Blake had been my only interest since we first became friends. Not in a creepy way though, I just had a huge crush on him. We'd been acquaintances since freshman year, but we only started really hanging out about 8 months ago. He invited me over to his house to watch some tv show that I didn't know. We ended up having a sleepover, and in the morning I woke up with his arms around me. We never spoke of it, but that's what caused me to fall in love with him. Now he was dancing with the girl that steals him from me after school every day. Ever since they started hanging out she was all he talked about, all he thought about, and all he wanted.

When the song was over, I saw Clarke walk back to her friends and Bellamy began walking towards me. Trying to seem as chill as possible, I pretended not to notice. He was probably gonna try to get me to dance with one of Clarke's friends, but I'd rather not dance with anyone but him.

"Y'know, Clarke's friend Emori has been eyeing you all night, Murph. Why don't you go talk to her? Or dance with her? That'll be fun. You can't be enjoying sulking in a corner much," Bellamy chuckled with that signature smirk he had.

"I really don't wanna dance with some random girl who I've never met, Bell." I don't wanna dance with this girl. She looks like she'd take me home, kill me, and turn me into a taxidermy horse statue.

"Come on," he said, dragging out the n, "she's lonely, if you dance with her it'll probably make her whole night," He gave me his sad eyes, he always does when he wants something from me.

"God, fine. What's her name? Emily? Let's go talk to her and Clarke. If she wants to dance, then I'll dance with her. Only one dance though. Okay?" He owes me big time after this.

"Yes! And it's Emori, not Emily. Please don't call her Emily to her face," If it's making Bellamy happy, then I guess I'll do it.

Emori wasn't bad company, after all. We ended up dancing for almost an hour. She was pretty funny, and we liked a lot of the same stuff. If I wasn't gay we'd probably be the perfect match. I was really dreading a slow song coming on, though. Slow dancing is awkward, but it'll be especially awkward with her. But, of course, Adele had to start playing.

When the rain is blowin' in your face

"You okay with a slow dance, John?" Emori asked, not wanting to make me uncomfortable.

"Yeah, of course," I don't wanna make her sad, so I could deal with one dance.

Right at that moment, I felt a hand on my shoulder.

I could offer you a warm embrace, to make you feel my love

I knew from the firm grasp that it was Bellamy.

"Hey, Em, mind if i cut in?" he asked.

"Of course not, go for it," Emori replied, with a smile.

I know you haven't made up yet, but I would never do you wrong

He looked ethereal in this lighting. I wanted nothing more than to dance with him, but I knew he wouldn't want to ruin his perfect reputation by dancing with some loser. The soft glow of the fairy lights in the gym illuminated his freckles.

"May I have this dance, Murph?" he said very dramatically.

"Why, of course, Bell," I replied
