Chapter 1

There was blood everywhere. My sword soaking with blood. I kind of feel pity for the people, but then again I'm gonna get paid. The night was fresh. People stared at me walking on the streets with my swords on my back. It doesn't matter though, it's not like they're gonna tell a little innocent girl anything.

I was heading home to my apartment on this chilly summer night. You can't see the blood on my hoodie because it was black. I long black hair was flowing in the wind. I started to think about what i had just done. It wasn't the first time I had done it. I was going to get paid $10,000 for it.

I can still remember the look on their faces. They were pale with fear. The woman was about 30. Her child was a new born and I knew it wouldn't survive on its own so it's life was better off just being ended. In my 23 years of living I've killed 14 people since I was 19. I'm in college in L.A.

My job is to kill people for money. People associate with my boss and I'm the one that does the dirty work. I was almost my my apartment walking up the stairs to my apartment. It was around 10 pm according to my neighbor I'm a chef at some Japanese restaurant.

I unlock my door. My door opened as it creaked. I walk in and turn on the light. I take my swords off my back. I was exhausted. I checked my phone, it was a message from my boss.

"Thank you for you work. Here's your $10,000 you were promised" the text said

I had done what I had to do. I go to the bathroom to wash my face. Reflecting upon me was my exhausted face with bits of blood on it. I look at the corner of my mirror to see the picture of my father.

My father died years ago when a fire broke out in our house. I was only 8 years old. I didn't like thinking of it.

I changed into my sweatpants and into another hoodie. I got on my phone as I laid in my bed. I fell asleep around 12am that night.

The next day...
The sun was shining through my blinds. I  got my phone to only see a text massage from my boss. He wants to meet me at his office today. Weird I thought to myself. At around 11:30 I was leaving my house. I went downstairs to my car.

I was wearing some jeans and my navy blue hoodie. The traffic wasn't too bad as the day had barely started. I had an extra pair of swords in my car if needed. My boss's house was around 10 minutes away. The bright sun shines in my face.

I made it to my boss's house finally. I parked my car in the parking lot. According to everyone this association is a failing insurance company. But we're everything but failing. I walk into the building to the woman up front.

"Good morning, how may I help you today?" asked the woman.

"Hi can I talk to Mr. A I was sent here." I replied.

"Ok, go to that elevator over there go to the 3rd floor on room 206."

"Thanks." I said as I walked to the elevator.

I got to floor 3 room 206. I walked into the room.

"Good morning Valerie, how are you today?"
"I'm doing fine how about you." I replied as I sat down at his desk. My boss was around 30 years old or so. He had black hair with pale skin.

"Do you have another job for me? It must be important if you sent me here." I asked.
"Yes I have another job for you. But it's not in the city. It's in San Francisco."
"It doesn't sound like that's it."
"It's not, but you're going to have a partner. They will be helping you with getting into the place to do the job. This won't be an easy job."
"What do you mean I'm going to have a partner. I always work alone?" I tried to say in the most calmly matter.
"Yes I know but it will make your job easier. Oh look he's here now!"
It was my partner. He was about 6 feet tall. He had short ginger hair with some band-aids in his cheeks.
"Oh h-hi there I'm Finn nice to meet you!"he said as he reached out to shake my hand.
"I'm Valerie nice to meet you." I said as I looked back at my boss as he smiled at me.
Finn carries a silver brief case with him in his right hand.  He sat next to me.
"Good morning Mr. A how are you today?"
" I'm doing good this is Valerie your partner for the job. She's going to be the one doing the dirty work."
"Ohhh ok that sounds good."
"So now that both of you are here I'm going to tell you the details of the job. You're going to be killing around 5 people in the four days your staying. All of them are women. We've gotten their schedules to where they go so it shouldn't be too hard to find them. The rest of the information is in these files." He said as he brought out and gave us each our own files.
"Ok so when are we leaving to San Francisco?" I asked
"You will be leaving tomorrow at 11pm. You guys will be staying until Friday. The car you guys will be using in in the parking lot. Here are the keys." He said as he handed me the keys.
I looked over at Finn only to see his face of determination.
"Ok well that's all Finn you can leave. Valerie I need to speak to you before you leave."
Right as Finn left out the door my boss got up to pick the door.
"You're partner is the last person you will be killing. He's been one we couldn't catch until one day he came in for a job. We haven't been able to get him but it's what has to be done."
My boss was speaking in a very quiet tone. I was surprised but I knew what I had to do.
"Ok, if that's what I have to do then how much am I getting paid for the six people I'm going to kill."
My boss started to bring out the stacks of money from his desk.
"$10,000 per person so that would come out to $60,000."
I nodded and got up from my seat.
"Is that all you had to tell me?"
"Yes that is all you can leave now."
I left out the door to go to my house to start packing. I went downstairs and was surprised to see that Finn had waited for me. I walked past him hoping he didn't notice me. Right before I walked out the door he stopped me.
"He-hey Valerie i just wanted to give you my number so we can be in contact for when we meet to leave tomorrow."
"Thanks I guess. I'll be the one taking to car I'm the one picking you up. We'll talk about where later. " I said as I walked around him to get to the SUV.
"Ok, see you later Valerie!"
He gave me his number on a little paper. I put it in my hoodie pocket as I got in the car. My partner was very optimistic. He seemed nice but I didn't want to get too attached as I would be the one ending his life.
It'll be painful to end his life but it's what I have to do to survive. I thought to myself "Am I doing the right thing?"
I brushed off the thought. I got to my apartment and started packing. I planned on getting dirty so I took a lot of hoodies and jeans. I took some nicer clothes just in case. I finished packing around 2pm.

I was bored so I decided to text the number Finn gave me. I was sitting on my bed typing in the number.
"Hi it's Valerie from earlier today. It's your partner."
I was hoping he wouldn't answer. Not too long later I got a notification from the news. Of course it was about my murder. I was well known around California for my kills, but I have never been found. I'm known as the Katana Killer because I always killed with my swords.
"Oh hi I didn't expect you to actually text me. I wanted to ask where will we be meeting tomorrow night?"  Finn replied to Valerie.
"I was thinking we could meet at the agency so you could leave your car there and I'll pick you up." I replied.
"Yeah that sounds like a good idea I'll see you then."

I sighed in relief that he didn't try to be friends with me. I don't have many friends but it's better for me not to to stay on the low. I had to go run some errands for the trip and get a hotel to stay in.

By the time I got home it was around 6pm. I decided to watch a movie to pass the time. My movie was interrupted by a knock on the door. I get up to open the door and I was surprised to see Finn at my door.

"W-what are you doing here?!"
"Sorry it might seem sudden but I really wanted to get to know you a bit before the trip." He replied
"Umm ok I guess you can come in."

He came in and sat himself down in one of the lounge chairs I have. He was around 5 inches taller than me. He seemed kind of nervous. I went to sit on my bed which is in front of him.

"So why'd you choose your job?" he asked nervously.
"Reasons."
"Oh well I just wanted to tell you that I'm going to be helping you with an earbud that we can speak through each other with." He said as he handed me a black earbud that fit perfectly in my ear.
"Thanks I guess. How'd you find me?"
"In the files it has your personal information so we can stay in contact. Sorry for not letting you know I was coming." His bright blue eyes shined in the sun that came in through the window.
"How about you why'd you choose your job?" He asked.
"Well I heard of this agency through an e-mail saying they needed jobs. Though I actually thought it was an insurance company." He said as he scratched the back of his neck.
"I didn't really think you liked me so I wanted to change that I-"
"I'm used to working alone not that I don't like you. I don't like the idea of working with someone." I said as I cut him off.
"Oh well maybe this time will be different. Maybe we can start by telling something about ourselves like where we're from. Here I'll start I'm from San Francisco."
" Ok well I'm from here, L.A."
"Ok next question. Where did you get your swords?"
"My father, next question."
"Ok, ummm. Are you in a relationship?"he asked
"Haha no. I find it a waste of time. Why love someone for them just to leave you?"
"That's a little harsh don't you think?"
"Well thats what I learned, anyways next question"
"How old are you?"
"I'm 23 and you?"
"Same age. Ummm what's a good question? Oh I got one what do you feel after you kill someone?"
"Well it's rare that I feel pity but most of the time I know why I'm doing it so I try not to let my feelings get in my way of me trying to survive."
"Oh well what about your parents why don't they help you out?"
"I don't have a mom and my dad is dead."
There was an awkward silence for about 10 seconds.
"Oh umm I'm sorry about your loss."
"It's fine that's why I do this to know what my dad taught me not go to waste, next question."
"Oh umm how about you ask a question?"

We sat there for awhile until like 10pm just talking. I'm afraid to say this but I actually had fun. We laughed a bit and my partner isn't so bad after all. Too bad  I have to kill him.
