Fin couldn't sleep that night. He tried to tell me it was alright, but I knew everything hurt. There were gashes on his back, so he couldn't lay down, there were cuts on the backs on his legs, so it hurt to sit, there were gashes on his abdomen so it hurt to lay on his stomach. I tried to ease the pain by feeding him pain pills.

Finally, I fell asleep before dawn. Somewhere in the middle of my sleep, I felt an arm ease over my head and pull me close into a warm chest.

When I opened my eyes, I realized I had been lying in the sand with Fin's arm wrapped around my head. He looked peaceful. Some of the grime and blood had been washed from his face. He looked less......grotesque. There were only a few gashes on his face, a single long gash on his leg, but his abdomen was the worst. Large wounds peppered his tanned skin.

I got out of his grasp and crawlee towards the fire.  It was slightly less cold now. I looked down at my clothes to see dirt and blood ridden fabric.

I grabbed a random wooden box and popped the top open with my knife. Inside, there were three tee shirts, two long sleeved tees, six pairs of women's jeans and a single jacket. I grabbed a black long sleeved tee and a pair of faded jeans. I went behind the tent to change.

As I slipped out of my clothes, my mind wandered back to Fin. I was her Protector! His words rang out in my head. What was a Protector? I'd have to ask him later.

The shirt was huge on me. The jeans hung loosely off my waist. I had to keep pulling them up as I walked.

My stomach growled angrily. I grabbed the same knife and opened another box, praying for food. Inside was a pack of crackers, beef jerky, and canned goods. I grabbed a pack of beef jerky and ate half, savoring the spicy taste.

Next, I walked over to the campfire and prodded at it, getting some hot coals going. When it was warm enough, I plopped down next to Fin. Soon, his arm twined around my shoulders, pulling me closer to him.

"Hey," he said, his eyelids fluttering. He smiled sleepily at me and sat up. He made a choking noise. I sat up with him, my head still in the crook of his arm.

"You okay? We need to get some stuff on those wounds." I said, motioning towards his bruised body. He smiled again and hugged me closer.

"Good morning to you too, Ivory Elise." I shrugged out of his grasp.

"Fin, seriously. You're going to get blood poisoning. I don't want anything to happen to--" I stopped myself and cleared my throat. He smirked.

"Don't use anything in those boxes on me. That's yours."

I grabbed his hand. "Ours."

I opened the box behind us and pulled out a bottle of  peroxide. I knew this would sting. There was a red rag in the bottom of the box. I  handed it to Fin. "Here. This might hurt." Fin gladly took the rag and shoved in his mouth. I began to apply the peroxide on the white crumpled rags.

"O--okay." I said, touching the rag to his leg wounds. He arched his back off the box and screamed. "Pinch my thigh, it might ease the pain." Fin nodded. Tears escaped from the corners of his eyes. When I looked down, he was tracing thing into my thigh. I studied it to see him writing I.B. + F.D.
