That night in the hospital, I had been questioned over and over about how I was able to sneak out, but my answer remained the same: I simply sneaked by a nurse. Of course I wasn't going to be able to tell them the truth, that some psycho guy who could control lightning and Darkness kidnapped me to feed the Darkness that resided inside him. They probably would have thought I was crazier than I already was.
I had been in this place for a few days already and I was hating it. After two long nights in the ICU trying to make sure that my organs weren't going to collapse from all that time I was at the tower, I was finally at the Institute of Psychiatry, my new home for the next couple of weeks. Tonight, on my way to falling asleep, I heard a noise. It was soft at first but I heard it again
"Hayden..." the voice whispered.
I didn't want to open my eyes, but I did, and sure enough, standing in the middle of my room was something I'd never seen before. It looked almost like a shadow, with no face or anything, but the shape of the person was clear. There was someone in here.
"Who...who are you?" I asked, trying hard not to let my voice tremble.
The Shadow chuckled. "Don't worry about who I am. Right now I need to know a little bit about what happened the other night at the tower. Kadin tried to drain all the energy out of you to feed himself, right?" The Shadow tsked "Must have been a sad day for him to realize you're not...qualified."
Kadin's words about my blood being too pure came flooding back to me. "Yeah...I guess so. What do you want with me?"
The Shadow came closer to me but I still couldn't see his face. "I think you and I can benefit one another. You see, someone very close to me needs my help and I'm doing the very best that I can do to help him out. You have the ability to help me out."
I shook my head, already knowing my answer. "No way. I am not going to help any other paranormal thing out! After what happened with Kadin, there's no reason for me to trust anything. He kidnapped me and tried to drain the life out of me!"
"Very well, then," the Shadow said. "Just remember that I'll be checking in on you from time to time because you offer a great deal of potential for the greater good. Toodles." The Shadow disappeared, leaving me with so many more questions than I had before he arrived.
Whatever it was these guys wanted from me, I needed to find out. And when I did, I was going to be ready for whatever came my way.
