Getting out of the shower as quickly as I could, I dried off and left the bathroom without brushing my teeth or doing anything to pamper myself. So much for looking good. I went back to my room, and no one was there, so I headed downstairs to find everyone at the kitchen table, all looking heavily concerned.

Philip was the first to speak. "What happened in there?"

Uh-oh. I really didn't want to get into this right now. "I told you, I got shampoo in my eyes."

Kristen crossed her arms over her chest. "Heather, I've been your best friend your whole life. I'm pretty sure I can tell when you're lying. What really happened?"

How was I going to be able to tell them without them worrying or freaking out? It wasn't like Kadin tried to kill me or tried to pull a move—he just wanted to talk. In the shower. While checking out my unmentionables. Damn it. "Um...Kadin kind of showed up."

All of their faces fell, but Philip's went dark. His green eyes seemed to melt as he said, "What do you mean Kadin 'kind of showed up'? Either he did or he didn't."

I never would of thought Philip could look so scary. "He did. It was just to talk, though."

"While you were in the shower?" Philip yelled, standing up quickly and knocking the chair back. "Do you have any idea how dangerous this guy probably is? And you were just going to let it go, weren't you? You had no intentions of telling us!"

Before I even had time to argue with him, the lights in the kitchen began to flicker on and off, and thankfully it wasn't night time yet. We all stayed quiet for a second and that's when I heard it. It was a low growl, coming from outside the kitchen window and my heart stopped.

"Guys..." I started. "What's that sound?"

Philip didn't even begin to hesitate. "Lena, make sure all the doors are locked. Kristen, take Michelle and Heather upstairs now!"

"What's going on?" I shouted.

Kristen grabbed me by the arm. "The Monsters are here."

I didn't have anything else to ask after that point. I quickly obeyed and my mother followed closely behind us as we climbed the stairs, heading into my room. Kristen slammed the door shut behind us and ran over to the windows. She cursed under her breath.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

"There's a bunch of them," she said. "I've never seen so many come out in the daylight! I don't understand what's going on right now." She pulled out her cell phone, dialing a number, and putting it on speakerphone. It was Philip who answered. "Philip, how's it looking down there?"

"They're climbing up the side of the house!" Philip shouted. I heard him scream as the sound of a window shattering cut in. "You need to get Michelle and Heather to safety. They'll reach the window any second—"

We didn't even have time to move. I screamed as my bedroom window shattered, and climbing on through was what I assumed was a Monster. It had dark red skin that seemed to be peeling and chunks of fur patches covered some of its body. It had two horns on the top of its head, round black eyes, and a snout that slightly resembled a pig. The only difference was, this thing was massive. It had to be at least five feet tall when it finally was able to stand on all four, and it roared, revealing rows of fangs that looked like they were meant for chewing through bone.

Kristen didn't even hesitate. She reached into her pocket, pulling out a knife and said, "Get out of here, guys! I'll hold it off!"

"Come on, sweetie," Mom said, grabbing my arm, and dragging me out of the bedroom and into the hall. I couldn't even believe this was happening and there was one thing that was shocking me the most.
